I am just a college student suffering from RSI. Tried to use regular keyboards, rubber dome and mechanical caused me too much grief. After 10 years, I gave up and switched to a PS2 MS ergo that I got at the thrift store for $3. That bought me about a year. I switched to Dvorak (took me 6 weeks to adjust) and that bought me about 2 years. As reports got longer, I observed how I was mistyping things and realized that staggered columns were an issue for me. A bit of searching found me the kinesis and I found one on craigslist for cheap. The rest is history.

Stay, just don't get into artisan keycaps.

Welcome :D I had a ms ergonomic board years ago that I loved until it stopped registering some of the keys. If Kinesis boards weren't so hulk-like I would seriously consider them

Always wanted to try a Kinesis, they look awesome. Think I would need one with linears.

Welcome to Geekhack!
It's been a long journey for you, but glad you've finally found a solution to your RSI. Or at least a way to work with it.
There is an ergonomics (https://geekhack.org/index.php?board=125.0) section, where you're welcome to share your experience. Perhaps it will help someone else :)

Welcome to the forum I do not have RSI but I do get swollen knuckles and tight joints in my hands every now and again (might be RSI I am just in denial). But there are newer solutions besides the kinesis I have used a couple of their early models but not for an extended period of time. I am getting a UHK from Crowd Supply later this year and an Ergodox too because I think the split keyboard is a cool idea. I will report back after some use with my results.

The trick is to only get the keycaps you really want to see on your keyboard.
Just imagine having the keycap on the keyboard in front of you, or a small pile of cash sitting next to the keyboard. Then ask yourself which you would prefer.
