Title: GMK Triumph Adler, what is its real color?
Post by: kasakka on Fri, 29 April 2016, 15:42:52
The GMK Triumph Adler set seems to be notoriously difficult to photograph. Looking at the pics online the color ranges from a lighter teal-ish shade to a pretty dark blue tinted shade. What would you say is the real color of the keyset and is there any picture that comes close to reality? Is it more blue than teal?

Dark teal, with more blue than green.

Renders would make it look more faded or retro than it is. The blue of the modifiers is actually a pretty deep blue, and as Romevi said, more blue than green.

Okay. I don't have TA in front of me, but I'm taking a wild stab here based off memory. I turned off my screen's blue filter, so hopefully I have this right.

This hex is pretty close to TA in real life, based solely off memory:

I'm typing on it right now, here is a picture comparing it to cyan. I feel like in the flesh, the blue is a bit deeper and more vibrant than it shows in the image.

Edit: Wow, Romevi, pretty damn close!

Thanks! I guess I'm more into the GMK Cyan, just wish I could buy just a modifier set somewhere as the set on originative is hideously expensive to get to Finland.

GMK seems highly regarded but 170 for keycaps seems excessive........... is it worth it?

Welcome to a 8-bit-Colorland!

Is it a Teal? Is it a Green? Is it a Teal-Green? Or is it a Blue? It's up to YOU, my friend!!!

Only if you want the best modern cylindrical doubleshots.

There, fixed it for you, romevi.

GMK keycaps are an excellent choice for folks who like cylindrical keycaps. I use sphericals exclusively, so as far as I'm concerned, GMKs aren't worth it at any price. Obviously, YMMV.

Thanks for the link but it doesn't have enough bottom row keys (missing one 1.25u) for my keyboard layout, no ISO shift nor the HHKB size right shift and backspace/delete key.

Maybe contact the seller? Missing a 1.25u bottom row key doesn't seem like something that would happen for any GMK set. Also, including an ISO enter without ISO left shift seems really weird. This leads me to believe that the first image just doesn't include all the keys.

The color does seem to vary depending on the lighting in the photographs.

Looking at my set in daylight right now, I'd say its dark teal.  Firmly in the blue territory, with a hint of green.

Photographing at night under yellow indoor light makes it look really blue.

Yeah, to me this is totally too blue.

Yea its "greener" and closer to teal in real life.  Could be the way my camera processes the colors too (Nexus 6).
