I'm about to purchase my first mechanical keyboard.
I've been using a Microsoft Natural Ergonomic 4000 for the past seven years, so the keycaps are all shiny and have that oily feeling. Here's how it would have looked new:

What really bothers me about that keyboard is the spacebar which is very hard to press and squeaky, and overall the keys require non-uniform amounts of force to press down. Also, most keys, especially escape/tidle and the function keys, wiggle around a lot. I feel like the right side of the keyboard is not very ergonomic, maybe the way it's angled and the oversized keys cause me to twist my right hand much more than on the left side. Oh and of course the thing is way too large, so I need a TKL.
Wondering which of those two I should get:
Ducky One TKL PBT

Leopold FC750R

I'm also open to entirely different suggestions! :thumb:

Welcome to Geekhack!
If it was me, I'd go for the Ducky, but either one would be more then fine.
Reason being I have three Duckys already, and all are great keyboards.

Don't listen to this person, if you want a damn FINE Keyboard start out first with a Filco and don't look back - as you pass all the losers typing on much lesser keyboards ;D .

Both these beat the filco on quality. Having used all 3 I'd rate Leopold>ducky>filco.

IMO you can't go wrong with either.

Consider a Realforce 87u ;)

The Ducky is pretty..... but the Leo is gorgeous! My choice would be the FC750R.

Filco, KUL, and Leopold all have a sound that I really enjoy. I prefer the case of KUL keyboards but that's just me. I know the benefits of Topre but I'm constantly wavering on the price vs. Cherry MX when I can easily grab a PBT spacebar for cherry mx.

Do you want to go ergonomic? If so:
Matias Ergo Pro
Ergodox
Otherwise maybe an Quickfire Rapid?
(only talking from what I tried and liked)
[size=85]typos due to my tiuch screen are possible[size]

Hmm...
I would stay away from Filco because I don't like Costar/wire stabilizers.
I would stay away from KUL because they just don't seem to care anymore. Also heard KULs stabilizers are mushier than the Leopolds.
Ducky ... I would stay away from the keyboard simply because I've heard from more than one person that the stabilizers feel mushier than the ones on the Leopold. However(!) I think the upcoming Ducky mixed language dual dyesub green/red on white keycaps are gorgeous and think they would look great on the Leopold.
So I would buy the Leopold and then if those keycaps weren't for you sell/trade them out for a set of Ducky caps.
