Getting my HHKB is what brought me back to Geek Hack. Had listed after one for a while but never wanted to drop the funds. One popped up on mechmarket local to me, made a trade, and the rest is history. Best keyboard I've used to date.

I originally got my HHKB to us eon my server as it is small and can sit on the shelf with the server out of the way.

Now it is usually my main keyboard at home.

what did not having an hhkb do to you? share your stories

I researched if I have to pay customs when bringing stuff back with me from the US. Turns out we can bring 430€ worth of stuff per person and don't have to pay any customs. It seems like I have to visit elitekeyboards and buy a HHKB since they are virtually impossible to find in EU.
Downside?
If the GB of the TK78 works out it will probably arrive while I'm in the US (I hope customs does not keep it, as my Grandparents can't pick it up in time), together with the 62/60 I want to get and my recent Zealios R3 order. I have no idea how I am going to explain 3 new keyboards in 2 weeks to my parents. Any advice?

Explain the differences to them and why they're all great in their own way.

I am trying this thing out for the first time on the tour. The keys feel  GREAT  but the size is not for me. And black-on-black legends for a tester?

However, the thing that is making me insane is the lack of a Delete key. There is a key that says "Delete" but it is actually Backspace and I cannot find any combination of modifiers (eg  Fn+ or Alt+ or Shift+ or Ctl+ or whatever) that makes it go the other way. A Google search did not help either.

I use both Delete and Backspace all the time. Don't you guys ever make mistakes or change your minds?

HHKB made me not want to use anything else again, except the keyboard I have at work (MS Sculpt Ergo), maybe my G80-1800 as well

Purple slider HHKB needs to be a regularly stocked product, only took me almost 2 years to see the light.

This is partially why I went with the lettered white caps first before going full blanks. I wanted to learn the layout fully before I risked not having a legend, but surprisingly everything came to me really quickly.

Ok, you guys seem like the right crowd to ask:

I'm considering asking a colleague to bring an hhkb back from Japan. Just to understand the hype (already have a silenced RF 87u and a Novatouch).

My question: should I get a hhkb BT, or a (silenced) pro 2 + Hasu controller?

depends. not everyone wants to spend the time adding in rings himself.
the time you spend adding in rings yourself could also be spend working for some money to get a type-s. and hypersphere rings aren't that cheap either..

Hhkb bt if you plan to use it on Bluetooth as far as those that have used it it's seems to be massively improved over the normal hhkb and does not need to be charged constantly like a hasu modded one, but if you plan to not use the BT aspect I wouldn't bother paying the extra for it, and again type s is preference I don't think it needs to be silenced

Downside to bt hhkb is no type s
Downside to pro 2/type s with hasu mod is it requires charging every 12 hours or so

I think you forgot to mention how the hhkb bt is ugly as **** with that battery pack.

I've read that it's a bit heavier as a result of the batteries though and that, therefore, the hhkb is less prone to wobble/move while typing.

Going back to looks - yes, I agree with you Beehatch that the hhkb looks better without batteries (plus BT version is only available in black).
Still, that BT functionality looks very tempting. Mmm.

Weight and sliding around hasn't been an issue at all for me (non-BT HHKB). I wouldn't worry about that unless you type super hard and at an angle for some reason.

Well, if you want a white HHKB then just get Hasu's controller. The shape of the BT is a disgrace.

my hhkb magnified my OCD even more. I find myself changing key caps almost every week, as though there was a calling inside me to keep on rotating the caps. It is strangely calming to spend that 10-15 minutes of changing keys. Maybe I am too stressed at work and at home!

What's so bad about 55g Topre? Typically I'm a fan of switches like White Alps so I'm pretty sure that 55g would be a good choice for me. Then again, I like my linear switches to be light, like MX Red. I probably should go with 45g just to be safe, I can get used to lighter switches but not heavier switches.

What seems to be more important than weighting is whether I like Topre or not, but given that I love NMB and BTC rubber domes, I think that Topre is easily going to be my favorite switch. The amazing sound only adds to my confidence in buying a Topre board.

I find 55g Topre much lighter than Clears. I find Clears prohibitively heavy, but 55g Topre is more like the weight of Blues.

But Topre uses a rubber dome. Rubber domes don't get progressively stiff like MX Clears do. I like the weighting of the tactile bump on MX Clears, but the bottom out force is just too stiff.

I thought the use of rubberdomes will stiff up over time due to hardening?
As for springs shouldnt they become "lighter" as wear and tear made them loose some (maybe little) of their springiness?

A big pet peeve of mine is seeing photos of great looking boards, especially HHKBs, ruined by flipped spacebars. Even worse, I've been photos of boards with the entire bottom row flipped. The disease is spreading.

Hello I am jerue,

The first time I purchased a HHKB it was a white Professional 2. It didn't get much use, so I ended up letting it go.

Then...I got the itch...for plastic...

Since I didn't really like the stock HHKB, I wanted to try Type-S. I liked it better. But the addiction didn't really begin until I installed purple silent sliders...now it's my obsession  >:D

muh feels

1. got curious about whether there were nicer keyboards than the ones that came with computers
2. did some research, wanted HHKB but was freaked out by the price
3. did more research, bought a Cherry red keyboard (KUL, nice board). Messed around with the vast array of key caps for it, blew lots of $$
4. finally took the plunge on the HHKB I wanted in the first place (black body, white keys) http://i.imgur.com/coHUC8h.jpg (http://i.imgur.com/coHUC8h.jpg)
5. bought an additional Topre board for my office (Type Heaven with Realforce PBT caps, all very nice) http://i.imgur.com/jW0jQXl.jpg (http://i.imgur.com/jW0jQXl.jpg)
6. now getting ready to sell the Cherry board

Mmm, that HHKB with white lettered keys is my dream. Or not. I'm still on the fence whether I like more than blank white set. But yeah, I'm thinking about selling my own MX board because well - it's not Topre. :D

Since I'm getting a Topre board soon, I need to know whether to go with 45g or 55g. I find that Panda Clears come close to my ideal tactile switch, but MX Brown/Blue is too light and MX Clear is too heavy.
55g is the same as Clear to me. So if Clear is too heavy for you, forget 55g

I'm comparing brand new Topre to brand new MX Clears. Even lubed MX Clears are way too stiff. And no, I mean >>progressively<< stiff, not stiffer at the tactile point. Over time, rubber domes will become more stiff (but not 95cN stiff) yet more mushy. They still don't have the huge spike in force that MX Clears do. After the tactile point on a rubber dome,  there's a huge drop in force. But after the tactile point on MX Clears, there is a huge uprise in force. Two vastly different things.

Ohh... thanks for clarifying, that means it is due to the stiff MX clear springs?

Because of the hype, I've decided to also get a HHKB. Didn't even get my Ergodox from Mass Drop yet. Waiting for it to close lol

I had cause to carry my HHKB around the house last night, and was struck by how light it is and easy to carry, and how great the stock keycaps are.  The texture and legends are just right.  The weight is spot on (and I use a folded sheet of drawer liner to stop it sliding around on the desk).

Hello,

my name is adhoc and I'm an HHKB addict. I've had over a dozen under my fingertips, 6 of which I own/have owned. I am currently expecting additional cap set, a Type S and CTRL/ESC kit in my mailbox.

HHKB has ruined my life. Ever since I poked into this nippley switch I can't let go. My girlfriend has abandoned me and took the dog, too.

Such is life.

I became addicted to my HHKB the day I received it. Had to buy another one, but I'm using a Type-S at work (black HHKB at home), which I think I like better. I actually try to spend some more time at the office because of this keyboard.

I spent money on rubber feet for my keyboard. It’s made in America too. I need help.

how is this "Anonymous"?

My sentiment as well.

It's like the Addicts are all praising their use of Crack, Cocaine, Alcohol and Sex, all at the same time.

I thought you lot had to go through a 12 step program to help ween yourselves off this insidious addiction  :)) .

I thought about doing something similar, but I ended up layering some 3M helicopter tape (8671HS) that I had lying around instead. By doing this, the keyboard is not elevated more than necessary, and the keyboard fits on top of my MacBook Pro without touching the keys. It is rubbery enough to keep the keyboard from sliding around :)

why so many people prefer the 55g compared to the 45g?

I for one like lighter keypresses....

some of us like heavier ones. If i could have I'd have gotten my hhbk with the 55 but the layout is worth 45g

In my short time using Nubbinators Pro 2 I have really come to enjoy it.  I have heard over and over how the sound of it really makes you want to continue typing, but never fully understood it.  I tried the CM Novatouch and it just was not satisfying to type on.  This totally changes that.  I think the part of the sound that I really enjoy is the slight rattle as the keys top out.  In the past I have been exclusively happy with loud clicky switches (mx blue, mx white, BS, white Alps), but this has really got me thinking differently.
One thing I am not a fan of is the pbt caps.  I am a happy abs user.  The shinier the better for me.  PBT has a loose sand feel to me that I just can't get over.  Maybe if I wasn't so ocd and used the PBT without washing my hands first it would be better, but I just can't.

A huge shout out to Nubbinator for the attempt at HHKB conversion.  It has been a pleasure using your board and I am actually sad to see it go back home.  Maybe someday my wallet and the stars will align and allow me to pick one of these up.  Until then, I will have to make due with my 60g ergo clears which feel surprisingly close except for that satisfying rattle at top out.
