Title: Wheelwriter 15 Typewriter
Post by: Waateva on Tue, 03 May 2016, 10:53:57
I was looking on my local Craigslist and found an IBM Wheelwriter 15 Series II and from the little bit of research I've done so far, it appears that it is BS?  I don't really have the space to store a typewriter of this size, but would it be worth picking up to harvest the caps on it?

Definitely BS.  I'd say worth it for the caps, assuming the price is reasonable.  Some people do love the code key.

Asking price is $50 but it was posted a couple weeks ago, gonna see if he has had any bites and if he will go any lower.

I like the BS keyboard of these Wheelwriters a LOT more then the Model M, they feel a lot most crisp and refined, a bit like a mixture of a Model M and F. The Key caps are a lot better then the Model M caps, better texture and fell more solid when typed on, but that's my opinion. But the caps are one-piece (whish I prefer), not 2-piece like the Model M ones, they also have some quite prominent moulding marks on the back, much more so the the Model M ones. Altogether I would say pick them up when you can get one for very cheap (under 20 bucks), but 50 would be way to much for me, considering all you can use are the caps. It also takes up way too much space, and you would have to dump the machine, or otherwise dispose of it.
