General idea and thought process:
Initially I really loved the look of Bunnylake's 365 mini with OG Dyesubs and GMK Cyan accents, pictures here (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=68088.0), and wanted to adopt that style to my favourite colourway.
Since there are a lot of OG Cherry WoB sets out there I wanted to make this set unique and offer layout, and potentially legend, options that aren't available in OG sets. This is why I opted for HHKB and 65%/75% layouts to be included over some others.
Since writing this I've had a change or heart and rather than having a cheapish set that accommodated a few unique layouts I've decided to have this set support as many layouts as possible and take advantage of new moulds.

- Choose a different accent colour, I picked magenta not only because it looks awesome but also because there hasn't been a magenta mod pack AFAIK, but I'm happy to change it if that's what the majority wants.

I think that's the most likely option, even if it's a small pack I'd love to get some magenta in there.
I know there is an on-going WoB GB in China and I would expect the same GB to take orders on GH as well in a few days. Personally as someone who already has 4 sets of NIB WoB sets from various 8113 and 7000, I only care about the magenta sets and 1.5x keys.

Would love to see A-profile (row 5) since it can only be found on the IMMENSELY rare G81-3000HB_ keyboards. I don't know how popular this is though.

Nah. That's the least of problem. The real problem is that I don't think GMK has 1.25u r5 mould, which means you must provide 2 sets bottom rows, 1 with standard r4 bottom rows, and one with WKL r5 bottom rows

I wonder if you could keep the accents and have a mod pack too? It means some people end up with duplicate keys, but won't increase the price too much for those just wanting the base set.

SP's DCS spacebar is almost the same profile/shape as R5 Cherry/GMK.

R5 will heavily depend on price, I'd like to include it if possible but if it costs an arm and a leg it will be the first thing to go.
We'll work out the best solution to the magenta keys :thumb:, for now I'm going to look into a separate mod pack and we'll work from there.

AFAIK there's only "Caps Lock", handbag and down arrow. Though I could be missing some

Hey all,
There's a GMK WoB GB going on right now, here (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=80267.0) run by zennasyndroxx, so if you like the layout and price go ahead and pick it up. What does this mean for this IC? This doesn't really change much from my perspective, I wasn't planning on running this for a while regardless so I think we'll just keep refining the set until we're happy with it and run it when it's appropriate. The only change that may happen as a result of this is that, if we decided to make the magenta keys into a seperate mod pack which is likely at this point, then I might run that set before running WoB.

Unfortunately the windows and menu key weren't changed to the correct legends so i'll ask GMK to change that for the next render. As well as have them change both the ISO alpha keys to |\, also considering adding a 1.25 Fn key.
Along with the render I also received a price estimate for it and based on that and some speculation on my part, i think R5 is going to be too expensive and thus isn't going to be included in this set, sorry to all the folks that were interested in it.
Please note: I'm not going to give any price estimates until the set is finalised and extra costs are accounted for.

For the Magenta Pack, I think you should add F4-F8 and the 9 keys above the Arrows!
I'd also like to include full TKL support but it'll depend on pricing, I'll get a price est from GMK and hopefully it'll be fairly cheap. :thumb:

yeah, the win98 keys look weird off-center. A (couple) windowed/LED keys would absolutely make this set. dunno if i have ever seen windowed magenta keys before...

Hey all, I'd like to gauge interest in some custom packaging for my gmk white on black and magenta mod pack group buy.
The idea is to have a beautiful box which you can store the keys in when they're not in use, provide extra protection during shipping to avoid scratches and give this set a more premium feel.
This is just a mock-up I worked with my sister on, the magenta section will slide over the box for those who bought the mod pack as well as the main set. They keys will be housed in foam like here: http://i.imgur.com/PcXsepX.jpg (photo credit to sitch) within the box. We're thinking that this will be an optional extra for those who want it.
I'd love to hear any and all thoughts you may have, but specifically what you'd like to see in the box's design, how much you'd be willing to pay for it and if you would actually get it.
Also I guess this spills the beans on the vendor :p

However with a cardboard, it can easily damaged during shipping. Unless its a high quality one, this can be tricky but I love the idea :)

i am sure a Wob GMK GB have been lauched not long before in China with being compatible with1800 ,WKL ,75% and they cost about 105 USD without other fees. i hope those who like WOB but not join that one will join in this one .

Other than this, there is nothing neutral about diamonds, imagine any set with diamong win-fn keys, it would become a highlight of the keyboard, I don't find it neutral at all
This is not to say I don't like them, on the contrary, I would like to have them, maybe more icon 1.25's too, maybe as a separate GB on it's own, but I would use blanks instead, and I oppose replacing blanks with diamonds

I feel like I should explain a few things first. During the process of designing this set my philosophy has changed quite a bit, initially I wanted it to be a cheap set that covered a few unique layouts, now I want this set to cover as many layouts as possible and as long as the price isn't too high that's fine. When I finalised the renders I truly was happy with them, but as time went on I noticed small problems I had with it and wanted to add more keys but I didn't want to increase the price for fear of alienating potential buyers. My solution for this was to hope that we'd hit 250 orders and be able to add keys for free, but after some discussion with Sherryton I decided that I don't want to rely on this to have the set I want so I'd like to make the following changes:
Proposed WoB changes:
- Remove Blanks
- Remove LED keys
- Remove R2 'Pg Up'
- Change R3 'Pg Dn' to 'Home'
- Add R4 2x 1u and 2x 1.25u diamond keys
- Add full 1800 support, including R5 '0 Ins'
- Add full R4 WKL support, including win98 winkeys
- Add 6u spacebar
- Add 1x 1u 'Ctrl' and 'Alt'
- Add R4 1.25u 'Fn'
Proposed Magenta changes:
- Remove Blanks
- Change Winkeys into diamond keys
- Add R4 1.25u 'Fn'

The magenta sets price will remain pretty much the same, but the white on black set will be a bit more expensive, roughly ~$10-12 more. I feel like the changes are well worth the increase in cost, as they make the set more flexible in terms of layouts supported and legend options offered, but I want to hear your feedback on this before I commit the changes.

I assumed that you wouldn't like proposed changes, but I think it's better to have more layout compatibility than include bumped f/j's and I've received very little positive feedback about blanks compared to the 'want' for the diamond keys. Also please keep in mind that I am only proposing these changes, I have not committed to them yet.

A Profile makes this an authentic equivalent of an OG Cherry original set, if you remove them you just have one more set of the many that have been released recently, but in a standard color, that may not attract many young people that prefer cute colors over authenticity; check the demand of the recent Carbon, or HF and compare them with the two black on beige group buys, there is nothing similar in their demands. Truth be told, this set is not for everyone, but for people with sensibility for its classic style, reducing the key counts, or cutting a couple of dollars in its price will not make this as popular as the colorful sets. After the huge Ivan's failure this set may be the one to go for, if someone really wants to get a classic, but with full support for contemporary layouts as well as for classic ones.

Thanks for the input ideus, this is pretty much how I feel, and considering just how many keys would be included (with the updates) I think the price will be very fair and not a deterrent for most people.

I remember and I'm thinking of keeping the magenta pack as is to have the best of both worlds when it comes to winkey and it's replacements, given that the magenta pack needs to be compatible with older sets as well.
I think a poll with the different options would be good. So you can gauge interest at the different options. Only KHAAÀAAAN so far has mentioned bars, a poll would show us if others want it.
I'm open to this idea and want to be fair to everybody but I think I'll wait for a bit more feedback to see if it's necessary.

I wouldn't usually respond to a post like this, but it really rubbed me the wrong way for multiple reasons, and while I want to be the bigger person and walk away I just can't because this is some grade A bull****.
Firstly I understood that the proposed changes were not going to be popular with everyone, and I knew that you specifically wouldn't be happy as I know your fondness for both bumps and blanks, it's well documented. But to suggest that I'm selfish because I made design choices based on the feedback I received is ludicrous and I would counter that it shows your own selfishness, or at least immaturity, given that your willing to call people out for not including the exact keys that you wanted. You may disagree with my design choices, that's fine, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I have and will continue to take all opinions into account, including yours. If you follow this thread you will clearly see that I have made many adaptions based on feedback, for example using win98 winkeys, adding R5 and adding LED keys (although this has been removed in the proposed changes). The truth is that the only keys I will likely use are the base, wkl, split right shift and maybe 65/75%, so all these additions have no affect on the set for me personally, they are simply to make the set more appealing to as many people as possible. I considered adding bumped f/j keys but decided that adding full R4 wkl and 1800 support was more important and were changes that reflected what the majority of people wanted.
Secondly I truly believe that when your designing a set you should design it primarily for yourself. Why would I design a set I wouldn't purchase myself? Expecting IC/GB runners to drop the things they care about to accommodate what you want is selfish, not every set will include what you want and that variety is a good thing. When designing a set you can't just include everything and call it a day, you have to make choices about what to include and not to because price is a major factor in reaching MOQ.
Finally, this set (with the proposed changes) does include almost all non-regular keycaps.
As I've mentioned earlier, it is perfectly fine that you have preferences as to what keys you want included in any given set, but I take issue when you call me out for being selfish when I have tried my hardest to design a set that accommodates as many layouts as possible, while keeping the price as low as possible and making it as accessible as possible. Especially when there is clear evidence that I have made design choices that were not in my best interests.
To everyone who came here to discuss and help me with the design of this set, I am extremely sorry that you had to read this and I highly appreciate your input, this set wouldn't be as awesome as it is (both iterations) without it.

i don't think this layout will attract much more with FJ bars and lose many interest without FJ bars. He is the starter and whether he could adopt your suggestion or not fully depend on him. i also provide my advice for this . if he ignore them ,i would accept and appreciate his decision. it is very ridiculous that you mark this as selfish GB just because FJ bars you asked could not be included. i have also saw you many times annoyingly asking many GB' Starters to adding FJ bars even saying that you could join them if adding FJ and don't join if no FJ. I think I'm gonna to commit the changes to the WoB set but leave the magenta set as is, since I agree that it needs to be a bit more standard and with this setup we have basically every windows or windows replacement key offered between the sets. :thumb:
So I'm terribly sorry to the bump fans but they won't be included in the set for now, if we hit 250 we can consider having them added.

No sorry the magenta render is correct, I decided to keep win8 style keys in the magenta pack for variety and because I think it fits the more modern style of it. But I agree I love the win95 legends as well.

Oh I'm not doubting you, I'm just saying all of the boards I've seen with the 1u mods have been newer types (1865 or whatever), and all 1800 boards I've come across have had 1.5u WKL arrangements.No doubt Cherry and their crazy naming convention makes things a lot more convoluted than it should be. Oh no, no, it is not a single set, it is a 1800 set and the other keys that came from different Ivan's GBs, the purple mods were in one, the colored escape keys came from another one along with the space bars and I mixed some other SP modifiers and single keys. At some level I regret a bit that I have sold it; but, now with this set coming I would not regret it anymore, this set will be complete and nothing will be missing.

Just give me OG Beige Cherry or something simple. Or Dolch. Love me some Dolch... Can't get enough of the stuff!

It is really great to have Originative involved, I am sure they are improving on any issue the had and they are getting better with all this experience managing group buys.

I'm a scoops4life type of guy, bars feels like rolling my fingers over speed bumps every time I hit the keys. But I appreciate you adding those keys to the set for the ones who prefer it.

To be perfectly honest it's just not feasible to have a small add-on pack. Mainly because it likely wouldn't hit MOQ, would be redundant if we had 500 orders and it's far too late to be adding new stuff now, the group buy is happening in ~ a week.

I can't give definitive pricing just yet, it'll probably be released a day or 2 before the GB starts, but it's very low considering the number of keys included.
The WoB set will have price reductions at 250, 500 and 1000 as well as additional keys at 250 and 500, the magenta set will also have price drops but won't have any additional keys. The group buy will last between 3 weeks and a month, so you'll have plenty of time to save up. :thumb:

As you've mentioned it is possible to cover a 1u bottom row but the legends will not be correct, however 1u menu keys (R4 and R5) and a second 1u Alt and 1u Ctrl will be added at 250 and 500 MOQ respectfully. So if we hit 500 then it will support it 100%.
Hi effectiveduck, can you confirm the 2nd Ctrl and Alt keys at the 250 and 500 drop points respectively, like you mentioned earlier? I don't think I saw this mentioned on the kbdist listing. Thanks!
I completely forgot about this, so it wasn't planned but sherryton has agreed to have them added at 250, no change in cost :thumb:
Thank you very much for the confirmation. As this GB will end at the same time as the now-extended Keyboard and Co, I will be grabbing one of each set in 2 weeks. Hype!

I like it will be open the whole month. It gives everyone a chance to order and hopefully result in a high MOQ. Has op also created a thread in GB section? I don't see one. Could be a good idea to spread the word.

It's nice to see a GMK set that doesn't feature gaudy neon, not a big fan of DSA-esque colorways with every shade under the sun coming to cherry; apparently GMK GmbH has really opened up (with Uniqey and all) to allow all these formerly DSA/SA keyset designers to bring their ideas to Cherry.
I've dealt with Originative a couple of times already and although the regular non-GB prices that sherry puts out are a bit hard to swallow, this one seems perfectly reasonable (as with Carbon a while ago on MD, nice to see this trend for GMK sets) and in my experience sherry & co has always been good with shipping and replying to emails.

OMG, I really would like to get the stars cluster, I am not really into artisans, but this in particular is one of the finest examples I have seen of an artisan's so far.
