Missing 4 keycaps, but all the larger keycaps are there, including the space bar.

A nice project for someone.

Uses an SDL cable, so you can get one of Orihalcon's cables - costs more than the keyboard :))

Yeah, or you could mod it to be USB output without having to use a cable.

I would have thought that the 92G* was well into the attached-cable era.

Okay. So does anyone around Australia have a Model M cable sitting around that they are willing to sell to me?

Worst case scenario you could get one from: http://clickykeyboards.com/product-category/replacement-model-m-sdl-to-ps2-keyboard-cables/

orihalcon seems to be out of stock of the SDL to USB cable: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/USB-to-SDL-6-Pin-6ft-IBM-Lexmark-Unicomp-Model-M-Clicky-Keyboard-Cable-NEW-/271367683396

Clickykeyboards.com didn't have the replacement keys so I had to go with Unicomp for those. Thought I would just combine shipping with the cable from Unicomp too. Now just to see if it works...

I have a couple of extra SDL cables of the grey variety.  I'll start a private auction for you if you are interested in one.

Argh, wish I'd read this before ordering from Unicomp. Are you located in Australia?

I believe he's from Canada ayyyy

Shipping shouldn't hurt you too much m8 and gz on the Keyboard, I was eyeing it but... I already got a Model M  :blank:

haha, thanks. To be honest, I think it'll be a present for my brother, who just bought a new desktop computer. I'll probably never stop using the Model F that I got given for free.

Depending on how young you are, you might possibly wear it out before you die.

If it gets worn out I'll just replace the broken parts... it seems that on here and deskthority there are new parts for everything...

A Model F can wear out?

It may not wear out, but some maintenance is required to keep it in optimal condition.  Since I use my XT heavily and often for gaming, some keys simply don't ping but twang now.  Not that it's an actual issue of any importance (IBM didn't guarantee a ping from any key).

Argh, wish I'd read this before ordering from Unicomp. Are you located in Australia?

No, I'm not located in Australia.  Within the same Commonwealth, though.

Heh. Well, shipping from Canada is similar to that from the USA. In any case, I'm still preserving the number of working Model M's in Australia by making this one work (and replacing the keys).

For the record, my XT F has all keys still pinging. I guess that might mean it has a lot more life left in it.

Just out of curiosity, I have no idea about shipping in Australia. Does your PO offer "flat rate" boxes like we have?

What would it cost to ship something the weight of a vintage IBM keyboard from, say, Sydney to Melbourne, and what to go all the way across to Perth?

In the US the short run would probably be in the $12-$14 range, and the flat rate box would be $19 to anywhere domestic. Without the flat rate it would probably be in the $20-$25 range coast-to-coast and maybe $25-$30 up to Alaska.

Shipping within Australia is pretty much dependent on weight and dimensions rather than distance for the most part. That Model M cost $20.35 AUD to ship from Melbourne to pretty much anywhere in Australia, whether it's Perth or Sydney. Tasmania doesn't seem to cost extra either. International shipping hurts a lot though. That would be why I was looking for someone within Australia with a cable.

And the unicomp cables and keys have arrived. The keys definitely don't match, but the cable and keyboard work perfectly, and that's what matters the most.

My brother is now one of the converted. Now to keep him away from my F.
