Got a model F xt last night and need one. This one(http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-XT-AT-to-USB-Soarers-Converter-Remapping-Macros-NKRO-Support-IBM-Model-F-/281476427201) is for xt to usb and would work but I perfer ps2 if possible.
thanks

probably not possible unless you plugged a USB-to-PS/2 (male) adapter at the other end

I have one of those converters & it works very well, even preserving N-key rollover over USB. I've never tried adapting it to a PS/2 port, although my motherboard has them. There is just no advantage that I can see in connecting this converter to PS/2 instead of the USB port it's designed for.
-
Okay, I'll try just this and if I feel like I need the direct hardware access I'll just get a usb to ps2 thing
-
I've tried putting a USB to PS/2 adapter on one. It didn't work. Your mileage may vary.

It may need an active converter instead of passive then, but I did hear about a way to soldier my own ps2 on to the xt so eh I may do that when I get a spare, for now usb will work.

I think Soarer's converter converts the key encoding; the PS/2 and USB differ only in the shape of the connector, not the electrical signals involved. In any event:

Those small purple ones are for keyboards that are able to talk USB or PS/2 but has only one cable.

Actually I think the problem is that Soarers converter is a USB serial device and a USB HID device. Simple adapters can't tell the difference, you'll need something with more active logic.
If this is the case it might work with the TMK firmware as that IIRC only comes up as a single generic HID device.

Nope, Soarers converter does a lot more. PS/2 and USB are very different. You might be getting confused with AT DIN adapters and PS/2 a those are compatible.

Putting an AT-to-PS/2 adapter on the XT cable would fit mechanically but would not actually work.

The OP asked for an XT -> PS/2 solution. Disregard my comments on USB compatibility if it's inaccurate.
