Is it sheer practice or strong fingers or how do you actually do that? I've seen 220 wpm (a veteran secretary, court reporter or whoever it was in a Model M typing contest on YouTube), but I still can't wrap my mind around it. I guess I was meaning to ask how does one even get there?

Tp4 calls dibs on Sifo's girlfriend's phone number..
Sifo won't need it where he's going..
High score is 86 but want to reach the 100 mark soon. :'(That's a massive jump, you simply won't make it.

100-110 on average, but I can only get that on my HHKB. I've tried with my 55g 87u, my old 60%, and my FC660m, and usually top out around 80 or so.

Back when diablo 2 was serious business and VoIP wasn't as popular if you couldn't type fast you'd die. My mentality was that I'd type fast if I wanted to live in game, which is much more important than being alive irl so naturally 100 wpm became a breeze. In 2012 or so I got serious about actually trying to improve so I slowly went from like mid 120 to 130 to 140 to 145 to 150 etc until I peaked at 176 a few months ago... it's a pretty slow progress but I distinctly remember when I never thought I'd be doing 160 and now it ain't too hard.

cant change the language? In italian i do around 110-115 wpm, in english just 60-70 or something like that. I need training :D
type faster on rubber dome than topre
if you were to spend the time to get used to it, blacks are probably the best mx switches for raw speed but for me they're not enjoyable to type on.
scissor switches are probably the fastest overall because you're hardly pressing anything

Although iirc, those have the highest actuation force out of all the cherry switches, besides super blacks, right?
What's the difference that makes the HHKB so much faster? Does the reduced form factor somehow do it in connection with something else I can't think about?
I think that to answer this question with any meaning, first you have to ask yourself why you want to type fast.
Is it to impress other people—e.g. to get dates with office babes who find typing prowess a turn-on, or to win valuable prizes in typing competitions (given that humans like to pit themselves against each other in all manner of odd things)?
Is it to get your work done as fast as possible so you can get the #*@! out of the #)@*! office and try to have a life?
Is it a desperate attempt to justify your existence by knowing you can do something as random as typing on a keyboard faster than someone else?
Is it because you've had too much coffee again because you have to do so many mind-numbingly mundane things just to keep a roof over your head and food in the fridge that you don't want to think about how much of your God-given talent you're leaving on the dung heap?
Is it because you just have to type fast because if you don't you'll go crazy and run around the room and go bouncing off the furniture like a pinball?
I'm trying to think of other reasons why it might be important to type fast. Only then do I think we can move on to attaching any significance to any particular typing speeds. Anybody else, feel free to chime in on this. Certainly there are a few of you out there who realize that typing speed, in itself, means nothing when it's not related to motive and/or content. After all, people on the up-curve of manic-depressiveness can talk impressively fast—but what are they saying? Does anyone take that into account?

I type at the speed of imagination.
One of these days I'm going to sign up for classes again. Typing does keep me from bouncing off/on the furniture though :D
Personally I feel it's a solid combination of the switches and the amount of time I use it. I find that I can type really fast and smoothly on my HHKB due to the switches being somewhat lighter for me, as I'm a pretty heavy typer, and I've had the board for almost a year now, using it 40+ hours a week.
Just feels right to me :thumb:
Oops, this just got like the suburbs again.
It also seems to me that participating in a mechanical-keyboard forum so you can talk about how fast you type is rather like joining a book club so you can talk about how fast you can read. That's just my opinion, of course.Reading fast certainly has it's merits, in my opinion discussing the refinement of a skill should be what brings people in a mechanical-keyboard forum at the first place. Not the endless materialistic consumption.
Before joining GH (as a normal person with keyboard), I typed at 60wpm.
Today, after spending almost a year on GH, 110wpm.
