Family Computer Keycap Set
Hello, and thank you for taking the time to check out our keycap concept. Here at Datamancer, we strive to make what is old new again. Inspired by retro gaming hardware, the "Family Computer" keycap set captures a time when dying often meant starting at the beginning of the stage. We'd like to ask the community here if there's enough interest in a keyset like this. Any feedback is greatly appreciated! Here's the concept:

Details
- Designed by /u/Datamancer
- Manufactured by Signature Plastics
- MX Compatible
- DSA Profile
- ABS Plastic (edit: changed from PBT Plastic)
Child Deals
None have been designed yet, however we'd like to support any that have enough interest, possibly 60%, numpad, ergodox, 40%, novelties, etc.

It's a good looking keyset.
The DSA profile isn't extremely popular but I think it fits with this set.
However, PBT plastic cannot be used with the dark mods with light legends. Legends on PBT caps have to be done with dyesubbing which does not allow for light print on darker base caps.

This is awesome! I would definitely be interested.

Looks nice, I'm definitely interested!

Definitely interested! I would suggest more color options (as a separate kit) for both alphas and mods. Would love to see some novelty designs that match the theme too.
-
Oh shot this is nice! Can you render with white background? Or at least neutral one. I can't see the real color of the keycaps because the ambience.
-
I am definitely in :thumb:

Looks interesting, what vintage hardware is it based off?
-
Damn this looks pretty cool! :)

Me gusta. The concept is a well made subtle tribute to the original hardware. The only problem, as FrostyToast mentioned, would be the impossibility to dye-sub the dark mods.
On a personal note, what I like to see included in sets these days are extra caps to be able to permute Control and Caps Lock. I would also love to see compatibility with FC660M (extra 2.25u Shift and 1u Win, or Select (don't know if that would fit on a 1u keycap) in this case, but I realize that is a very niche thing.
-
How about making Delete, End, Page down and Arrow up dark grey as well to match the alphas?
-
This looks awesome! Love the "START" and "SELECT" keys. Would love a sweet dsa set like this for the ergodox I just ordered

As the name would suggest it's based on the Family Computer, or Famicom for short which was the Japanese release of the NES.
Though I would have to say that this set takes more inspiration from the NES than the Famicom.

FrostyToast is so knowledgeable :)
I like the theme but retro isn't really my style when it comes to actual use ^-^
Good luck with the set Datamancer :thumb:

Hopefully it ends up better than the Snes set

Sweet set. Glad to see DSA getting some love.

Interested. Would like to see what the novelty packs will have.

Love the theme of this set. Would definitely be in. Need some sweet novelties though! :thumb:

Eh, given the popularity that Granite had along with a successful round on Hana, DSA seems to be making a bit of a comeback. It might not rival the hotness of SA but seems to be a desired alternative lately.

I think Hana had alot more to do with the colorway than the profile but is some level of demand for non SA profiles.

Hey there! Have you thought of making some child kits like the Famicom keyboard? I tried making a set, but it came out looking like butt.

Also, some color ideas I had in mind.

For reference. How about a gold shine like the one on the controller on some novelty keys? Is that even possible?

Always big fan of sp dsa. Will definitely grab a few!

I like this. Reminds me of Retro Cassette. I think it works as a DSA set too. :thumb:

True, though we are seeing at least a few other DSA sets in various stages of IC at this point. The popularity isn't SA level but it seems to be getting a fair amount of interest lately.

DSA seems to be one of those love-it-or-hate-it keycap families. I personally love it, but only on my Pok3rs. For my full ANSI boards, it's SA all the way.
The bigger issue for me is that even though I really like DSA, I already have two DSA keysets I absolutely love (Dolch DSA and Granite), and I don't need more than that. I don't collect for collecting's sake, and I've yet to encounter another DSA colorway or design that makes me go "Must Have!" the way Dolch and Granite have.
But I am glad to see more DSA sets being sent up the flagpole. The SA queue is getting so long that it is starting to take three quarters of a year or more just to get a new set into production.

Good lookin set, though cant say I'm a DSA fan (personally prefer G20's). Id be game for sum thick (though I hear thin is usual with SP) DCS doubleshots. :thumb:
Just my 2 cents :S
