Hey all!
Excited to join this community... I'm a big fan of mech keyboards - currently have a Das 4 professional (greetech blues), a razer black widow (cherry mx blues), an ergo dox EZ (mx gateron blues) and I'm looking to buy my first Topre!
I hope I can contribute something back some day... but I'm guessing that I'll mostly be just taking from this site since my expertise is... well... non-existent as-is.
In any case, hello (again) all! ;D
EDIT: Whoops, the EZ has Gateron switches, not MX, and it's a full das 4, not TKL ;)

Sup.
Sell all cherry garbage.
Buy topre.
Be happy.

Welcome to Geekhack!
The resident Topre evangelist has already spoken ;)
The resident Ergo Dox evangelist is absent as his work is already done :))
Which Topre keyboard are you thinking of? HHKB?

Welcome to Geekhack!
Thanks! This seems like a great community =)
Which Topre keyboard are you thinking of? HHKB?
Well... I am lucky enough to have a co-worker with 3 HHKBs, so I was able to test one out and use it for ~8 hours yesterday.
I really liked the feel of the compact-ness, and the 45g Topres (a lot!), and I did really enjoy the backspace being closer... however I'm too afraid to get used to that modified of a layout (the pipe keys, backtick, backspace, CTRL, etc...)
SO I've been actually looking at getting a Leopold fc660c... thoughts?

Haha! Funny enough... I'm typing RIGHT NOW on a realforce TKL with 55g Topres... and I must be honest - these are a bit heavy.
I really did enjoy the 45g that I got to use yesterday (might have fallen in love, actually) and I do really like the "thock" kind of sound and feeling I get from these being plate mounted (it just feels more solid, if that makes sense?). However... I think I would have a hard time adjusting to how heavy these things are, if I ended up with a Realforce I might just have to resort to the EK version with the 45g switches.

Haha! Yeah... not a fan of the matrix layout - I tried it and it's pretty much a no for me ;)
Soo... you know anyone interested? lol...

Well, you bought one with Gateron blues so you should be able to sell it pretty easily. Just need to rack up some posts (25?) before you can sell it in the classifieds. People look for them on Ebay as well so there's that I guess.

I didn't know this! I guess I'll have to assert my opinions onto some poor souls ;)

Ask questions and insert your dominance and rise to the ranks of the gods! Or just post some stuff and have fun if you want :D

3 HHKBs?
Very generous to have let you use one :)
FC660C is good, although most say that the HHKB s superior in sound, feel, portability, layout and so on. HHKB does have it's own unique layout, although it is possible to get used to it. I swap between HHKB at home and TKL at work regularly, and once you get past the initial \\\\ for backspace on the TKL, it's not much hassle at all.
I tried using my HHKB at work, but the tools we use are too dependent on function keys and dedicated navigation keys, and my productivity dropped.

Haha! I do appreciate the opinion on this, though it must have fallen on deaf ears because I am now the new owner of an FC660C-EW (pictures to come)
It's interesting that you bring up the backspace for the HHKB, because I actually enjoyed that so much that I've sort of missed it a bit. However, I just don't miss it enough to have the backslash and pipe up next to +/= :-\
So far I'm really happy with the purchase, and I wanted to add a small note on the feel/sound comment you made: To me the HHKB felt a bit light, and without the addition of aftermarket rubber feet on the back it would slide around a bit while I typed on my desk at work. The FC660C doesn't have this issue as it is (just a bit) heavier, and has pads both on the bottom and on the feet - it feels to me very solid! As far as sound goes, I feel it's a bit more of a "thock" than the HHKB - which is more preference than anything really... I think they are both fine, just different.
I hope this wasn't too much of a rant... I'm very happy with my purchase, and still very happy to have joined in this community - I hope to have more conversations like this with you all in the future :))

I have a folded sheet of drawer liner on my desk under the keyboard (HHKB, SSK, whatever). It stops the keyboard sliding around, and also dampens the echo of the typing sound on and under the desk.
Desk material, thickness, space underneath, room acoustics, and probably a few other things, all play a part in how a particular keyboard sounds.
