Title: Hello!
Post by: peazy on Fri, 03 June 2016, 15:26:26
Hey y'all I already posted in the new members thread without realizing I could make my own topic..
I'm new to forums and keyboards so I'm always learning something. I've been a lurker here and on r/mechanical keyboards for some time.
I'm beginning to make keycaps of my own and wanted to make an account to document my process/endeavors in keycap designing.

Anyone recommend any particularly useful threads? Currently I'm stuck deciding on which silicon to use.

Looking forwards to getting to know the community!

-Peazy.

Welcome to the forum! It's really cool to hear that you're making caps. There are a few people that have documented their. Check out the threads from eat_the_food, binge, zorbobrema, and coz. I'm sure that there are more than that as well.

Thanks for your suggestions! I had already found the binge thread, but none of the others. These will be great resources  :)

   I thought I was close to starting my molds but it seems there is just so much more to learn. I'll definitely be combing through these links today... and into the night haha.

I want to start a Making Stuff Together thread but I'm only sculplting, baking and painting at this point. Eventually I will post one!
thank you!

Welcome to Geekhack!

Seems like csmertx has already provided you with a wealth of links and information :)

The thing to do is to start now.  If you keep researching, you'll reach the point of information overload, but still have no practical experience.

Once you have enough info to start, by all means start.  Practice makes all the difference here.  Try a few designs and processes - you'll probably make a mess the first few times.  Almost no-one comes out with perfect keycaps on the first try.  Or second.  Or third.  It is an iterative process that is best, well, iterated until you find a process and materials what work well for you.

Good luck :)
