Title: Recommend me a mechanical keyboard for Mac :)
Post by: blkicy on Wed, 08 June 2016, 16:15:12
Hi guys, this is my first post  ;D

I recently got into mechanical keyboards, and really fascinated/overwhelmed by the options out there, a little background for the purpose of this keyboard, it will be mainly used for productivity, I am a digital/UI designer, type a lot of emails and use keyboard for shortcuts etc. and a bit of front-end codings. Basically I have narrowed down what I would like to have option as follows:

And I also have some questions, if I purchase a keyboard with mx cherry red switches, am I able to swap it out with say mx cerry blue switches later?

Here's a couple options I have on my list:

What makes a keyboard a Mac keyboard? Aren't they all pretty much standard these days?

HHKB fits your description.
Otherwise, try a Code keyboard from WASD Keyboards.

Varmilo boards have NKRO always enabled without anyway to disable it which makes it incompatible with Macs, so i would avoid Varmilo boards until they release a firmware update for it.

A few keyboards are not compatible with Mac because of how they implement N-key rollover. If it is advertised as "6-key rollover" then there should not be a problem.

The Command key is the same as the Windows key, and the Option key is the same as the Alt key, but they are laid out in the opposite order on keyboards for PC and Mac, respectively.
Keyboards that support both have a DIP switch or key combo for swapping the order between MS Windows order and Mac order. WASD Keyboards' and Ducky's keyboards are known to have such DIP switches.

The Gateron Clear is a very very light switch. It might be too light for your taste.

The joke stopped being funny once everyone started saying it.

Not many keyboards with a metal case standard.

I've used all sorts of keyboard on the Macs I use, including HHKB, Model M, NEC APC-H4100E and various Cherry MX keyboards.

They all just work for most purposes, although I don't play much music on the Mac.

I use a CODE TKL at work, and Fn + page up/down does adjust the volume, so I guess the other keys in that area for play/pause/next etc. would also work.

Some keyboards have a DIP switch to swap Command and Option around as the Windows-like Alt/Win keys are opposite to the Mac layout, although I generally just swap them around in System Preferences.
