Rambled on a little bit in this one partly because it's hard for me to really explain how i feel about MX browns...they should be theory be a great switch being the ""balanced switch"" decent at everything....but they are great at nothing.
-
I think the browns are great for typing with, and for programming, I cant think of a better switch, maybe the clears, I havent tried them, and I wouldnt mind a little more tactile bump than what the browns have.
I was using blues but man they are obnoxious.. Maybe if I was 15 again, but these days I just want a quiet tactile switch and browns seem to be great so far..
Ducky Shine 5 w/mx browns..

My biggest issue with browns is while they are a great "all arounder" switch the tactile bump is so subtle that if you are spamming keys (gaming) or a faster typist (at least 80+ WPM) the bump is so barely noticable it's more or less linear. When it comes to light but still tactile i think the 45G Topre switch has it down pat personally.
I did enjoy browns for quite awhile though outside of the higher error rate i would have with them.

Im honestly thinking about moving from browns to 55g topre If I think they feel better, I too noticed the lighter tactile bump compared to the blues, but I really dont want to get the mx clears, i fear they may be a bit too much, I type alot and I could see fatique being an issue at some point.

Some people feel like Matias Quiet Clicks feel like ergo-modded MX Clears so they might be good choice for you.

FOr whatever it's worth i own and use a Pok3r with Clears among my collection and those were/are less fatiguing to me than my 55G realforce was to the point i sold the RF. This is a major reason among a few i stuck to my HHKB far as Topre goes.

Ill look into that, I had my eyes on a happy hacking pro2, I love the layout and for coding it looks like a dream, I reassigned my keys on my shine 5 to mimic the layout and I love it, I just dont know about the 45g topre, if they feel too close to browns then there isnt a point in switching, but if it is a better typing experience, Im all in..

Even though both are 45G the tactile bump is significantly more noticeable in Topre than MX Browns while still remaining a light switch. This is a major reason i like the 45G Topre so much while i felt the 55G was too heavy though YMMV.
If you lived in Massachusetts i'd say come meet me at a coffee shop or something and let you try mine.

It sounds like you and I are on the same page and what you just said may have just help solidify my decision on the hhkb.. I live in Florida, otherwise Id prob take you up on that :)

So I picked up a HHKB, the pro 2 in white, Ill do a short review when I get it.

Excellent choice! My own favorite is the black HHKB Pro 2, silenced and lubed, with blue alphanumeric caps. For an occasional change of pace, I have a KC60 with mx browns (programmed to a HHKB layout), but the browns feel like junk after typing on Topre switches. Sometimes I like a heavier switch, and I have modded a HHKB with 55g domes. Although I enjoy typing on my RF87UB55, I prefer 45g switches in the HHKB. Looking forward to your review of your HHKB.

Thanks! Though i already did a HHKB review on the channel (just not a review of the 45G topre switches themselves yet). And yeah the tactility is so much more pronounced on the topre when i use Cherry i basically need to default to Clears for silent tactile now because i can't really feel the Browns anymore.

Thanks for all the info and help guys, Im looking for an end game keyboard and I think this could be it.. I dont game or anything, but I hear the HHKB is a coders dream keyboard, and LEG's review plus his description of the tactility really sound consistent with what I am reading about.. When I started thinking about what keyboard I wanted to get, I checked all the tech review places and all I kept hearing was that if you dont have cherry, you essentially dont know what quality switches are, in fact, I think the tech review market is somewhat rigged for the companies who give free merch for reviews, there is a lot of tech stuff they dont cover, but then I suspect they arent getting free merchandise so why do the review..
Ill do a separate review of my experience with it in a new thread when it arrives and I get a chance to play with it.
