Title: gh60 went haywire and died. thoughts
Post by: shinz0 on Wed, 15 June 2016, 15:48:34
I got the gh60 from techkeys and everything has been fine since i built the board weeks ago. Installed zealios at 350c soldering iron and no LEDs.

All of a sudden today, each keypress started registering as a group of keys. G would register as 5tgb, H would be 6yhn, and so on and then all of a sudden it just stopped working entirely. It never double fired, just registered other keys in it's column. Has that ever happened to any of you guys? Any thoughts as to why this is happening?

thanks in advance guys. y'all the best.

I was considering to get one GH60 sample, until I read your thread, thank you for the heads up pal, I really hope someone can help, also, you could contact techkeys, I suppose they can replace the faulty unit.

What kind of case are you using? Is it metal?

This almost sounds like a short circuit.

Agreed, that sounds like a short between signal lines of the additional keys that show up.

Yes it's the cast pok3r case. **** I hope the PcB did not end up how I like my chicken.

I would actually get this version  gh60 over the Satan. The build quality of tech keys' gh60 was a lot better the Satan when I compared the two. Also, The uSB connection on the satan snapped off the PCB and rendered the board useless within a week of home/work use.

If it's still functioning, I'd say you should be fine as far as it being permanently broken. Try taking it out of the case and see if it does the same.

Yeah, it is what I am considering as well; however, I may give a try to a fully custom hard wired design first.

My satan has been fine, it's in a pok3r case. And I've been plugging/unplugging the thing loads from testing USB cables.

I would not worry about the techkey gh60. I have 2 of them (one I use everyday for work) and both have been rock solid. I cannot say that about my 2 gh60 satans because both of them are dead.

This makes good statistics and yields a simple model: Go for the Techkey's one, period.

Can I ask how did it die? Should I worry about mine?

my usb connection broke at the PCB. The solder connections on the four feet gave up and eventually took part of the PCB with it. I'd be careful about constant plugging/unplugging.

So the PCB came back to life and I have more information.
only 3rd row is going haywire. a key registers 1qa, s=2wsz, d=3edx, etc. It's the strangest thing. I'll try a firmware reflash tomorrow. hopefully that will fix this problem.
