Title: Ducky one LED mod
Post by: Maxusy on Sat, 18 June 2016, 18:39:00
Hi folks,

I've bought a ducky one tkl (DKON1508F) with mx brown switches. THat's the blue / grey pbt dyesub, non-backlit version of the ducky one.

According to the manual it's possible to add led's to it. It doesn't state anything about the leds themselves, though. Has anyone tried this mod with this board? What type of resistors are in there and which colors could I try?

Can't find anything about this on their website either :/

THank you!

Ducky One TKL part number should be (DKON1687)
Resistors already attached on the board, you just need to put the LED and update the firmware to DKON1687S.

It says DKON1508F on the back.. not sure if that's a problem. It's this one: https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=1757

Would orange leds work fine? Back when I built my b.face I read about different resistors working better with certain types of colors. Is that not really important here?

Thanks!

Blue and white LEDs usually have higher forward voltage so need a smaller value resistor, that's probably what you read.

I would guess orange would be fine but if you want to be sure can you read what it says on the tiny resistors on the board?

That's exactly the last page of the manual I think. Right now I can't even manage to open the case.. seems like unscrewing the two screws on the back isn't all I have to do to click the case apart...

It's different from this one: https://deskthority.net/workshop-f7/ducky-shine-ii-tkl-mod-plate-switch-led-caps-t6805.html

Maybe I just have to force it?

Ducky One TKL have 2 screws at the back
After removing the screws you just need to pop open the case using some pry tools / unused credit card.
Be careful when doing this, you need some force to release the notch but don't break it

Rest in peace dreams.

Quote
DKON1508F and DKON1687 are using same user manual, on last page of user manual, it shows "Ducky ONE DKON1687 backlit Upgrade Regulation"
DKON1508F not allow user to install LED on it. Only DKON1687 allow to do that

Hey I know this thread is a little old, but there's a very well-documented Ducky One modding guide here.
Also using orange-coloured LEDs.
Yes, it's a success.

EDIT: Apologies, I didn't know about Ducky not allowing the DKON1508F doesn't allow LED modification
