Title: Greetings
Post by: meowizzle on Sun, 19 June 2016, 23:57:20
Hello,

I am glad to be here. First off this is my first time posting in a forum. Ever. While I have used forums before however I have never become an "active member" until now. This community is very fascinating and great. It has passion and style.

Now, why would I decided to actually become an "active member" now? Well because I have an addiction. I am addicted to keyboards and keyboard accessories.

This all started when a friend of mine showed me the ways of a poker 60% keyboard. It made me laugh at first. Not only how much money was spent on things as silly as keyboard but then also eventually small pieces of plastic.

I know have a pok3r 3 and a divge2. I am now in too deep. I need more. I have moved on to small pieces of plastic. I now want to start making artisans and hope this is my first gigantic leap toward having an amazing creation all of my own.

Ready set go!

Welcome to Geekhack!

It can be a very addictive hobby - there are so many nice things you can get, or even make if you have the skill.

If you are thinking of making your own keycaps, the :~$ynth (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=78551.0) might pique your interest.  Available from Techkeys.us (when they get back in stock): http://techkeys.us/collections/accessories/products/synth

And before your addiction goes too far, have a quick skim through this post (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=67980.0) ;)

Welcome. Sure, one could buy a crate of rubber dome keyboards and be set for years but why spend all that money on shipping when you could buy artisans? Right? ^-^

Rowdy - Thanks for the reply. Trust me I have been looking at the :~$ynth and if I would have had the "Mrs." approval then I would have gotten one. As it happens I did not get approval to start until they were sold out :'( -- Also thanks for the addiction post, I have already been following some of the advice that was given "If you can't control your spending, get married."

csmertx -- Wait you can get a create of rubber domes? haha just kidding. I used to be a desktop field tech for a large healthcare company and they had many pallets of cheap dell keyboards. I bet there was 3000 easily on a single pallet and they had a few stacked taller than I am. I now see that they were even more useless.

thanks for the kind greetings.

Yea seriously, a crate of keyboards to maybe find a couple decent boards. From what I've read most people that buy a crate only buy the one because the success rate is pretty low. I would entertain the idea until I imagine a truck dropping the crate and the work it would take to move it all in the house before it rains :-[

One trick is to offer to buy your financial controller something of similar value.  It can get expensive, but at least you both get a little toy to play with.

Also be tolerant, and even show an interest, in something your other half collects.  It goes a long way towards tolerance of your obsession ;)
