I'm Marius, I live in Atlanta, GA, USA.
I grew up in South Africa, but live in the US now.
I'm a Software Developer (C++/ABAP). My skills include network programming, compiler construction, code optimization. I have deep Unix/Linux knowledge, but use Mac/Windows mostly now for my desktop.
I use (and am a contributor to) the Vim Editor (I maintain the abap.vim syntax file).
I've owned a Vic-20, C64, Amiga 500. Then used Slackware on my first PC in 1991. I used my first mechanical keyboard in 1989 (IBM Model M) and fell in love with it. I also still have an Amiga 1200 and tinker with it.
I studied Math and Computer Science but have some passing knowledge in electronics.
I also am an avid gamer.
I have a:
Model M (1984 model)
DAS (Mac keycaps, Cherry Blue) (May daughter uses this one)
Monoprice (Backlit, Cherry RED)
Nixeus Moda V2 (Kailh Brown, custom doubleshot keycaps)
I've also bought a Disco TKL (Ducky-made) recently with custom MX Browns. Can't wait to get it... want to get Vortex keycaps for it.

Welcome to Geekhack!
There's quite a few Vim threads around here, plus some Vim keycaps (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=77048.0) too :)
Out of those switches you have tried, which is your favourite?

Brown for sure. I like a little bit more force when typing. I don't mind the audible feedback of blue, but that would then limit me from using it at work. I can see how red is the best for *most* gaming... but for some reason I really don't mind too much gaming on the browns.
As for manufacturer : Greetech > Cherry > Kailh > Buckling spring. (Depends on my mood, that old IBM feels real good sometimes)

A lot of people like browns. I started with blues and found them good, but after I tried greens and blacks I couldn't go back to them. I have a keybaord with clears, and I suspect browns would be way too light for me.
Have you tried Topre yet?

I've not yet tried Topre. I'm a bit averse to try something for which there are not many keycaps available. I know there are some Topre which are MX compatible, but I'm unsure if they would then compromise elsewhere.
If I can get to try it one day somewhere... for now I'm unsure if I'll even like it. When I initially bought the DAS as my first (apart from the IBM), I did not buy it with a lot of knowledge... I bought it because it was 'cool'. Then only later learnt about colors etc.
I need a similar introduction to Topre I guess...

Yes, Topre keycaps are a bit scarce on the ground. Just as well the ones that come with Topre keyboards are so good!
Novatouch have native MX-compatible Topre sliders, but then you're talking about a different keyboard to, say, a RealForce. MX-compatible sliders can be purchased separately (soonish), so you could modify a standard Topre keyboard, but would you want to? :p ;)
If you can go to a meetup, that would be a great opportunity to try a range of keyboards!
