To replace a single switch, you're probably gonna have to find someone close to you willing to do it for you as just shipping to and back from someone who is willing to repair it even for free will probably run you around $30-40.

Maybe you could find a maker space or electronics club (are those a thing?) in your area.

I'm betting there's some more keyboard enthusiasts in the houston area who might possible be able to help.

For $10 you're going to be counting on the kindness of strangers to get that fixed.

Cherry MX switches have a weak top housing, this is a known issue unfortunately :/ . You should never use a particularly great amount of force when pulling MX caps, especially as the mount isn't all that tight. Some other mount types require significantly more force to remove.

I had a similar issue with my DAS... someone spilled apple cider into it and made about 10 of the switches really sticky so I replaced them myself.

A switch replacement is easier than you think. You just need a few tools and a new switch. I order this:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01712N5C4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It had the soldering iron and desoldering pump which you will need. Just watch a few videos for how to use the desoldering pump. I hadn't soldered anything in ~10 years so I was a little weary but it was not as bad as I thought. As long as you have a steady hand you are good to go. If you don't, find a friend who does and get them to help you.

Comic sans ms is pretty great, I must say. Youre not a real comic sans lover unless youve done a school project entirely in comic sans, luckily the teacher at the time had a sense of humor.

It had the soldering iron and desoldering pump which you will need. Just watch a few videos for how to use the desoldering pump. I hadn't soldered anything in ~10 years so I was a little weary but it was not as bad as I thought. As long as you have a steady hand you are good to go. If you don't, find a friend who does and get them to help you.
i got that for 1$ already, but i just suck at soldering xD

Ask on craigslist ... Maybe someone needs their lawn mowed, and ppl pay around $35 for that.  There have to be some ppl around there who can solder.

I'd be surprised if soldering a new switch into a keyboard would be much, if any, different from soldering other electrical or electronical components to PCBs.

I tried that long ago and found that electronical components do get damaged by the heat (which, of course, I knew before).  So I don't do that anymore since I don't like soldering too much, anyway.  Yet I wouldn't be overly afraid to solder a key switch.  They are probably somewhat resistant against heat.  Getting the old one out I'd consider more of a problem.

So what can go wrong?  The keyboard is already broken, and you won't solder it yourself.

I can't tell whether it's the easiest thing you can solder or not ...  I've seen a video on youtube from someone who built their own keyboard, and he seemed to be really good at soldering.  He also had the right tools for the job.  If you can find someone who has them, you might take that as indication that they know what they're doing.

Building a keyboard like that would drive me crazy because it requires ridiculous amounts of fumbling with hundreds of small pieces, soldering and patience --- and it's basically boring and a job for a machine.  For some ppl, it seems to be fun.  I'd rather invent the machine that builds the keyboard :)

Soldering is not for everyone, but if you have steady hands you should do fine if you want to give it a try

I heard about this just last week. Evidently, vendors are "bribing" customers with discounts in exchange for stellar reviews and it's happening a lot. And guys like this are willing to lie to the rest of us to get free or discounted stuff for themselves. Screw him and his broken keyboard. So much for Amazon reviews.

All the paid reviews I've seen so far include a disclaimer. The reviewers are no longer legally obligated to include that they received the item for a discounted price?

This is completely OT now, but guys, seriously STOP QUOTING FULL POSTS, especially when those are already the 3rd or 4th fulltextquote of a conversation. It is really killing the clarity and structure of the whole thread, even more so if it is already a complete ****fest. Reply 32 barely fits my computer monitor, I don't even want to know how bad this looks on a smartphone.

Damn, that's something to get personal about. Are you by any chance a police officer? If not you're perfectly qualified for the job and should definitely think about a change in career.

Now could we all go back to talking down the fake amazon reviews that are easier to spot than a first-time-tourist at the beach? I'll even add something, it's already quite funny comparing the 5-star reviews and the 4-star reviews on good items, but comparing 5-star and <3-star reviews on bad items makes it way too obvious that a large amount of 5-stars are either written after 10 minutes of use or even before the item is recieved only to be sold as a NIB item on eBay.

Actually, your original post requesting people to trim their replies was quite valid. It's when you spammed the forum with concatenated posts to annoy everyone that you became the whiny little b itch.

Yes, you can pick up the fake reviews if you take the time to read through them. But the fake reviews influence the perceived product rating. And when you're looking at a bunch of cases for a phone for example, one would expect to be able to rely upon the overall rating in their decision making process. That's no longer the case.

You seem like a nice guy. My advice to you is, don't compromise your integrity by writing a fake review to get something for free. It messes up things for the rest of us.
