I really tried to get into that show.  I watched a season, then decided it was one of the ****tiest sci-fi shows I had ever seen, made worse by the muppets.

hahahaha..

I completely understand ur experience..

Farscape is pretty hardcore sci-fi...  when you're looking for something different..

Primarily, it's because the aliens are all extremely weird looking..

Most humans are extremely anthropocentric

It's far more a show about aliens.. making it less relatable..  vs something like Firefly which is mostly about humans..

Nah, it has nothing to do with the aliens vs humans bit.  The show just felt campy to me and the acting was wooden.

Edit:  Also not sure what you mean by hardcore.  When I watched it, it felt like soft Sci-Fi to me.  Firefly was a more hard sci-fi show than Farscape as Farscape relied on a bunch of campy tropes and fantasy elements instead of science.  Stargate Universe is the closest I can think of to TV hard sci-fi in recent years.  Even then it had some pseudo-science and fantasy elements and was still probably closer to a space opera since it was so focused on drama.

its definitely a show for background noise... the acting is horrible. but the story line was interesting for a while... definitely would not recommend.
it did have a lot of potential... but failed due to bad acting imo.

I'd have to agree.
It was a decent show to watch if there was nothing else. But I definitely wouldn't recommend it because the acting was beyond terrible.

Bad acting?

hahaha...  This is sci fi.. acting doesn't matter,  you're doing most of the work by  --believing-- the many impossibilities and inconsistent motivations.

How can you believe if you're not immersed?  The Star Wars prequels are largely bashed by fans because of bad acting and bad writing.  You cannot feel sympathy for characters and cannot be pulled into a story if the acting is ****.

Yes, there is a time when bad acting makes the show amazing, like The Room and Troll 2, but when you're trying to create an atmosphere and believable characters, bad acting coupled with unbelievable muppets and campy writing just makes the show awful.

Ok.. let's take a look back at the cornerstones..

Startrek TOS..  good acting ?

Startrek TNG.. Season 1/2   good acting ?

Andromeda..  good acting ?

Hahahaha..

Bad acting and scifi go together..

The thing is that, in general, the acting in the shows you mentioned worked for the show.  Star Trek's acting was campy and melodramatic, but so was the writing.  No one thought, hey, let's get Kevin Sorbo for his acting chops in Andromeda, but they wrote in a way that his bad acting didn't matter as much (it still wasn't a great show though).  And I wouldn't disagree that TNG seasons 1 and 2 were not great, but they had enough decent acting for it to not be totally immersion breaking.  Riker, Tasha Yar, and Wesley Crusher all were intolerable.

On the other hand, the acting was wooden on Farscape, but the show tried hard to be serious, at least in the first season.

Scifi is a measure by its ability to create an interesting world that you WANT to be in...

Farscape accomplishes this with interesting critters a realistic take on alien politics..

I guess we have different notions of "interesting".  I just saw one dimensional writing with bad acting.

it wasn't bad acting under the assumption that they're aliens..

Bad acting is when humans are bad at being human..

there are many great sci-fi shows out there with great acting and great story lines.
even low budget ones can turn out really great.

tbh, i think it was the main character of farscape that ruined it.
to me, it just felt like he was reading lines from a monitor behind the camera.
but that being said, i have watch a lot of that series...
i did grow into liking the show. but i never finished it.

i've always wanted to make my own scifi, as low budget as possible.
i guess now its more feasable than ever because gfx are easy as heck now... and anyone can get an hd camera.
but... that probably wont happen, never enough free time for anything.
