Title: Question for HHKB Pro users: Why is the bottom row off centered?
Post by: ideus on Sun, 26 June 2016, 09:41:35
Do you know the reasoning behind the off centered bottom row design?
Have you noticed any issue with it in your daily typing?
Do you perceived any advantage on having the space bar and mods in that positions?

It was cheaper to produce like this.

Yeah, it extends 2¾u to the left of the touch typing center (between G/H keys), whereas it extends 3¼u to the right. They should have shrunk the key down to 5½u or smaller, and pushed the right side inward a bit.

I assume the 6u spacebar was just the size they could find.

To be fair, the whole keyboard design extends too far to the right. Blame IBM.

Because a Centered Space bar means you're not pressing the center of the spacebar unless you hit the spacebar at "B"....and most people don't...and even less likely to do so in Japan.

It makes perfect sense IMO....and it is exactly where it should be...

The bottom row is the same layout as Realforce, just with a few keys removed.

My IBM actually has it left of centre.
