Title: [IC] Cherry MX Sterling Silver Keycaps
Post by: Ziggy4H on Tue, 28 June 2016, 09:24:26
I have made a few Sterling Silver OEM profile Cherry MX keycaps. These are for Row 1 (escape key) I want to know if anybody is interested in these if I start a group buy. I don't have enough post credit or reputation in this forum to start it so I am hoping that I can help answer questions for the ones that I made already.

These keys weigh about 7dwt per piece. They are cast and then hand finished. I have the sides with a high polish and the finger top as a satin finish. I think this helps to reduce the fingerprints and makes the key shine. I also have a full satin key. They are actually 93.5% silver which is a very rich sterling silver. Sterling Silver is 92.5%

Let me know what questions I am forgetting to answer.

How many are you considering making?

7dwt seems light.  So it's only 0.32575 troy ounces silver @ 93.5%?

Data - So after weighing it after polish it's 5.0 dwt which is a quarter ounce it's more before polish but that's with the sprue spurs and unpolished surface. That is a heavy piece. for reference a double shot pbt key is 0.8dwt. I would love to get at least 50 units with that quantity the price should come down.

I think they will be between $50 and $60 per piece. Right now they would sell about $75 when made in single pieces.

Would be interested if you did some in Cherry profile. I can't stand OEM :(

It's not out of the question I would need to get a set of measurements for them and make a model.
Just need to see how many would be interested in what.

I think oxidized silver would look better, also the 925 should be written inside the key cap?

misconceit - There is no laws on how to mark a piece of jewelry. Just that there needs to be a Karat stamp on the item. I liked being able to see the stamp when looking at the key. If you want it on the inside I can stamp it there. Makes no difference to me. There is no right or wrong...

I'd be interested in at least one, but Cherry profile would be preferable. Stamp on the outside is cool imo.
