Title: I already feel more powerful..
Post by: tp4tissue on Fri, 01 July 2016, 11:04:30
After 2x $20 power supplies vx and cx series crapping out on me..

I reaction bought the overpriced psu that everyone's raving about..

Adjusted for inflation It will only take 15 years to get my money back on electrical savings..

I've always been a proponent of budget $20 psus,   I would still recommend them to builders on a budget..

But I am reconsidering my position given 2 dead ones over the course of 2 years.  because that's $40 already, if I bought another one, that's $60...

The entire time, I could've just bought an $80 unit and be fine forever..

This new unit is only $90

I wouldn't, a shorted PSU can easily take out your motherboard or more components. I'd rather skimp on memory or storage which are easy upgrades down the road versus worrying about a PSU failing. I'm sure there are budget PSUs that review well but I simply don't think it's worth the risk.

EDIT: didn't read you're reconsidering your position. My b

The difference between a $20 PSU and a $60 PSU can be huge. It's always worth looking, as there are definite bargains to be had on quality units that are just re-branded.

Like the Rosewill Capstone series, which everyone would assume are garbage being as it's Neweggs house brand, are actually re-branded Superflowers. Got my 550w 80Gold modular one on sale for $60 back in 2013 and it's still going strong.

The P2 you just bought is also a Superflower unit.

You're free to your opinion, but the golden series were also very good PSUs. Leadex is an improvement, no doubt, but the golden series were extremely good units for the price.
