I bought this Filco MJ2 TKL with browns about 18 months ago. I left it mostly alone for about 6-8 months, but then I got the itch to start working on it. So, today, I finished it. It's a great board, and I really enjoy using it.

- Plasti-dipped Vortex aluminum case (before you ask why - I like the weight of the case, but not the coldness, and I really like the color of the dip)
- Pegasus Hoof daughter board
- Custom sleeved cable with breakaway from Mimic Cables
- Vortex bi-color PBT double shot keycaps + blank gray super keys

Looks Great. you should really clean the dirt out of your switches though :p
(if you dont get it, many people on here joke that mx browns are reds with dirt in them)

Might be ... if you changed the case, plate-mounted the switches for greater stability, swapped the switches for something MX, altered the controller, and attached a new cable.
Like if you have a boom and replace the head, is it the same broom? What if you then replace the handle. Still the same?

LOL. This reminds me of a developer friend of mine here in Vancouver. He's bought, remodeled and sold about 75 houses. I've known him for the last five or six, and he always says, "Finally, I've bought a house that's perfect—I don't have to do a thing to it!" Then he changes one little thing, then another, and pretty soon he's calling in the contractors.
Let's face it: I type "let's face it" a lot. Also, I don't think we're the type of people who want to find "the best" of anything and stick with it forever. It's the variety of good experiences that make life worth living. And it's the variety of MK technology that keeps us typing—the rich, 40-odd history of switch innovation from which we 21st-century geeks are so lucky to benefit, while millions of poor saps around us mush away on $5 membrane boards, oblivious to the ecstasy they're missing. No wonder they consider typing a chore—for them, it is!
Okay, in the interest of full disclosure: If all I had was a 1st-generation Model M, or an ANSI-ified Model F, I could be indefinitely happy. But it's the fact that I can use other, inferior switches now and then that keeps me appreciating how buckling springs are the ultimate form of typing fabulousness, and that anyone who thinks otherwise simply lacks the experience and maturity to realize where the evolution of the computer keyboard reached its pinnacle, and it's okay to be gracious about it with them because they just don't know yet.
I was actually trying to reach a point of some kind here, but I've had a beer. And it's so damn delightful hanging out here with all you swell KB guys, all I can think about is how great you all are... I'd better stop now or I'm going to cry, and I don't know how to spell that.

That is a good looking board, it's in a nice solid case and it's programmable - you've ticked all the boxes for endgame (except finding an artisan in the perfect shade of blue ;))

Thanks! If I spotted an artisan that really did it for me, I'd probably replace the Esc key, but I haven't found one yet. I think a lot of them look great, and I definitely appreciate the artistry and craftsmanship that goes into them, I just haven't really wanted any of them on my keyboard.

I don't know if I will get to that day when I find one that is perfect. but yours sure does look pretty good. I was thinking about those feet but I think I can't mount it on my regular mech kb.
still trying to find myself a set of perfect keycaps, there's so many that grabbed my eyes. hopefully I will decide on one (or two).

Thanks! I have gone through a bunch of keycaps, but what I realized along the way was something that's so blatantly obvious, it's easy to lose sight of; pick keycaps based on feel first, look second. They're the part of the board you have the most contact with. I could be happy with nearly any color of caps that are thick PBT double shot in OEM profile. Once I realized this, I just picked up a nice quality set in colors that I thought complemented the rest of my stuff and went with it. Definitely a solid decision.

I would love this board in a 60%. I like the colors you picked out along with the case. It's great having something custom you built, that exists nowhere else and to your specifications. It's nice to see another Cherry Brown user. Most people nowadays are scoffing at Cherry switches. I occasionally switch to gateron browns, but cherry brown is my favorite.

In this one, it's held in place by the lip of the case, which is the same as how the MJ2 is attached in its original factory plastic housing.

Certainly similar, though the TA is much greener. This one is a Vortex set. Not the cheapest going, but they have reasonable prices, and I really like the thickness of the PBT.

Yeah. I keep flipping back between whether I liked the varmillo "cherry" profile with pbt, oem w/ pbt, or the GMK with ABS. If anyone saw how often I switch out keysets they'd probably think I was crazy. The one good thing is that usually keysets retain their value so that when you get tired of a set you can sell it to recoup most of your money.
