color cherry pay keys (http://cgi.ebay.com/CHPAYKEYS-Payment-Color-Key-set_W0QQitemZ330347262738QQcmdZViewItemQQptZPCA_Mice_Trackballs?hash=item4cea3b3312#ht_860wt_939)
this holiday, remind loved ones about the money they owe you with elegance.
For only 20-something (?) keys, it's still a lot of dough... but they're really colorful. at least they should be. Anyone have a set of these?
should come with something like this: (http://www.racoindustries.com/cherry-color-keycaps.htm)
Payment Set: CHPAYKEYS (SPOS-R&C); RCPAYKEYS (RC Series)
Includes:
(1x1) Red key with black legend: "Void"
(2x1) Red key with black legend: "Override"
(1x1) Yellow keys with black legends: "Tax Free"
(1x1) White keys with black legends: "000", "Shift", "Page Up", "Page Down", number keys "1" - "9"
(1x2) White keys with black legends: "Enter"
(2x1) White keys with black legends: "0"
(1x1) Green key with black legend: "Coupon"
(2x1) Green keys with black legends: "Sub-Total", "Cash", "Check", "Credit Card", "WIC", "Food Stamps", "Gift Certificate"
(2x2) Green key with black legend: "Total"
(1x2) Green key with black legend: "Price Check"
I'm not gona buy any, I'm famished at the moment. Too many keyboards. Damn, I don't wanna lose out on that yellow "tax free" key though.. and it would be cool to have a green "cash" enter key. I mean, I have a green enter key, but it just says 'enter' and it only works on BS ibms. These are for cherry switches. Cherry, they're good. Try them sometime.
I don't know how tall the keys are, or anything, but I imagine they'll match any recent cherry pos keyboard.

Great Find, wish I could afford to waste the $20 right now.

Yah, my contract-to-perm just turned contract-to-unemployed. $20 is too much for toys any more.

does everyone here dream of working at a grocery store? i think this is taking it too far. one or two keys with grander implications (void, override) is one thing, but come on...
-
If the pictures on the website are related to the product at all then the keyscaps are likely TIPRO or Preh keycaps. Those sadly do not go well together with anything else but POS boards.
Hope someone will order a board so we know for sure.
-
i cant resist, more complaining: am i the only one that thinks that set is overpriced? i bail out on auctions for the double-shot keyboards a lot, but they all seem to end under $40, and that is new. i know his set is a little different, but $40 for used caps?
-
Sig. plastics is asking around 100 bucks for a full set of 2-shots (black)
It's good to know that these won't look good on anything but preh boards. thanks.
-
i will invest in your business. i will also cover advertising... within a month, EVERYONE will want double-shot keys, it will be a household term, and it will be the craze among all the kids. needless to say we will need a logitech line.
-
actually, it might be 50/set with a min order of 2 sets
i got a quote from them a few months ago.
fake edit: after consulting email, it's 100 simoleans for 206 black doubleshot keys + a key puller. It wasn't specified in the quote, but I enquired about tall, high-profile keys. The price is low relative to rip's because they're produced in high quantities for another customer (in england) that regularly orders black cherry 2shots w/ white legends.
For the record, I think POS buttons are fun.
-
wow rip those must be some really nice keys. my quote must be for bolognium caps.
-
cherry compatible.
I also don't think they're ANSI, I asked for US layout. I wanted something that would work with my lscrc-2. It's not a bad deal, yeah. I would get it if my money weren't already tied up in magic beans and keyboards.
I know it's not a lot, but 50 bucks still seems like a lot for 100 pieces of injection molded plastic. It's probably right above costs though, making it a good deal.
I also don't know if they have any more of those at that price, but if you or anyone else is interested, Melissa is the person that quoted me.

Hey! I work in a grocery store. I wanted to be a teacher, though. Oh well.
-
I also work in a grocery store, saving my pennies for topre
...sorry
-
Well, I lied. I don't work in a grocery store (I used to, though), but I do work for a grocery company.

The CHPAYKEYS are a total bust. They are not compatible with normal Cherry keystems. They appear to need a cylindrical stem somewhat akin to a Type M.

The package even comes with instructions.

At least this slipped under the spouse-radar. That's about the only good part of it.
-
Well, at least we know. Sorry about the loss of your 20bux, ricercar :(
I really do feel bad about that.
As a consolation gift I'd be more than happy to send you some of my beautiful 2-shot wyse MX keycaps. some say they're fugly, but those people are just plain wrong. :D
-
Dude, you don't owe me anything, but I'm mercenary enough to accept your offer of key caps. Look for a PM.
-
Then let's just say that I'm thanking you for that G86 find :D

Lack of discretionary income helps one focus on projects and experiments that require only currently-owned materiel. Tonight I recovered the bag of CHPAYKEYS key caps from the bottom of the jar I had stored them in.
I took a wirecutter-like tool to my crystal-capped keys and removed their skirts. This was amazingly easy: 4 cuts per key and done. The skirts came off in one piece, it was so clean. Then I super-glued the newly-made {flat caps with stems} onto the underside of a dozen 1-by-1 CHPAYKEYS.
There is >1 mm play allowed by the CHPAYKEY on the modded clearcap, and cap alignment is critical. I did fairly well on the up/down spacing. Damn near perfect.
Alas, I spent too much attention on up/down perfection. Side-to-side spacing is displeasing. The 1 and the Shift caps are clearly both too far left in their personal spaces.

Other don't-do-this-at-home-kiddies warnings include not replacing the keycap set into it's sandwich Ziplock too soon. The fumes from the not-dry super-glue discolored many 2-by-1 green caps, as shown best in the first photo. (in real light, all the discoloration is foggy white; it's curious that it shows up as yellow and blue in my photos.
The CHPAYKEYS totally ruin the aesthetic of my SPOS, so they won't remain on the board long after these photos were taken. Maybe I'll use them on my 124 key G80-6555 HPDUS-2 nkey-rollover POS board. I don't really know what keyboard I'll use them on ...but at least they are usable now.
Next step is to try making 2-by-1 and 2-by-2 wide CHPAYKEYS caps fit on traditional key switches ... sans stabilizers.
