Title: Preferred shipping method for keyboards
Post by: zeltner on Wed, 06 July 2016, 11:45:41
So I have a 60% board that I built and would like to send to a friend. We are both in CONUS.

I have never shipped a board so I am curious if anyone who ships a lot of boards has a preferred carrier?
I noticed there are probably a few 'flat rate' boxes that would fit a 60% board (medium, large, board game box, etc). If you send flat rate is there a box that you prefer over the others?

Like I said I have never shipped a board before so I just want to minimize risk of something happening in shipping.

Flat rate boxes are great for heavy items but lighter items probably ship for less.

Bubble wrap and styrofoam peanuts do well but double-boxing is the ultimate, although it costs more because carriers go by volume as well as weight.

Just slap some wrapping paper on and call it a night.

We should introduce aerogel as packaging material.

We should introduce aerogel as packaging material.

And then have the keyboards float to their destination.

I've sold a few Model M keyboards and shipped them in the USPS large flat rate boxes (game board) based on the advice of others. I was able to get two - three layers of large bubble wrap around them and they've all made it safely to their new owners.

Thanks. so sounds like usps priority using a game board box should work well.

I wouldn't use the gameboard box for a 60% board the box would be too big, they are better suited for full size boards.

USPS also has a priority medium flat rate box (should be ~$15 shipped through paypal) which would be more appropriately sized for a 60% board.
