if you had the chance to get one of these for <£5 (that's about $8 I guess at the moment with current currency) would you? I'm thinking about getting an iphone just to **** around with iphone development and the real thing would be far better than the simulator. I know that initially you had to be a paid iphone developer to be able to transfer code to the phone but that all changed now, and you can put your app on the phone, except for certain apple services.
so, would i realistically be limiting myself when all i want is just a few tools - would i be able to run the latest xcode and transfer the code?
in a nutshell, i'd be looking to just create an interface with a crm i locally host, scanning in barcodes where necessary and taking photos then uploading the data, so I wouldn't be needing absolute latest ios features.

That's a silly question.. there's no way around buying one if you're serious about it..

What you'd be looking at is the newest version of iOS the iPhone 3GS supports (6.1.6) and the oldest version of iOS supported by the version of XCode you are using.
