Yeah, definitely take as carry on. Then if they do pull it at least you have a chance to explain.

I took my 6019284 in my carry on. Just wrapped it in clothes and it was fine. A couple weird looks but nothing bad.

well domestic flights both ways can be as low as $200, you can just go to florida beaches for the week and come back.
-
I brought 2 boards with me last week for my holiday, Octagon v2 and HHKB BT. Security told me to rescan my bag. After it came out the second time, they told me they need to do the cotton swab thing.
I told them: it's just keyboards... chill.

I think an alps 60% wont arouse any suspicion, but my F XT might turn some heads. Hopefully I can take both though.

If you had a drinking problem.. expensive.
If you buy a bottle of good wine that one time... it's fine no?
I don't see how Clib is going to fly to florida, get addicted to flying on commercial air.. then somehow end up on the streets..
hahahahahaha

Never had a problem with keyboards in checked bags. Too much weight for my carry on.
-
I'd be so gutted if they destroyed one of my 68% boards.
-
I took a Model M on in my hand luggage once, and later I took along an AT101. Both were gifts. Partly when I don't see the need for small keyboards :p .
-
I've always flown with my keycool 84 for the last year and a half on business never had an issue.

My trip to Houston was 85 round trip. Taxes and all.

I'd say most keyboards with a PCB should be ok in either carry-on or checked luggage.
Hand-wired: I'd take as carry on if possible, otherwise, make it accessible. Also, some airports have a check-in counter for oversize / hazardous materials where your suitcase gets scanned while you're there, might be a possibility.
-
Brought my CF weaven keyboard through a few airports during my flights to Asia. Security/TSA didn't seem to care.
Crossing HK to China border by bus (and vice versa, hand carry luggage) had me stopped both times by the China officials. They ask what it is, I take it out and say "small keyboard". I remove it from my keyboard sleeve and the officials there say "wow, it really is a small keyboard". Apparently bringing laptop+camera+keyboard somehow=smuggling a whole computer through the border. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I brought my HHKB on a flight to Hawaii and it seemed fine, didn't ask to see inside the carrying or anything when I had it as carry on. I'm sure it varies from country to country though .-.

Or if you're snowden... you can bet they won't let him have a keyboard..

I've flown with up to 6 boards in my carry on. Never any problems. Almost always have a Poker X in my bag.

Just flew back from Ecuador 2 weeks ago, not a single look or question about my Clueboard, kept it in my laptop bag the whole time. It was a trip for work, so I didn't want to be stuck using a ****ty laptop keyboard for 10 days :))
Unfortunately I seem to have acquired a crack in one of the acrylic layers... :(
