Title: Replacing model m rivets with rivets
Post by: QuincyJones on Wed, 13 July 2016, 00:40:02
Instead of bolt / screw mods, why aren't people using normal rivets? It would look more professional?

One reason is probably that rivets are a fixed tension, with no way to control the tension. Screws & nuts allow tension adjustment and even fine tuning the tension in a troublesome area. It also makes future disassembly a lot easier.

Pretty much.

Some Model M's even after the modding can be fussy, so you may need to have one area of the keyboard a little tighter than another.

Also, they would need to be very small, and just the right length.

Plus, how would you get the "anvil" side of the tool or press between the barrels ("chimneys") for press-fitting the rivets together?

as an american i'm disappointed you don't know that... WITH A GUN OF COURSE! lol! A pop-rivet gun. They work like voodoo.

I have seen metal rivets on boards for sale before, but just wondered why it isn't common place.

Who said I was a Brit? Go on... ask me my nationality! I dare you!

And besides, Brits don't need help looking bad here. E.g. you calling me "a ****, **** off" because you don't like my opinions. I'm not on this world to be what you expect of me.

Well I'm not British either. And me calling you a **** had nothing to do with your opinions. I don't know what you call people that falsely accuse you in public, but I call those people ****s. Good day to you sir.

I'm daring.. What nationality are you - cause you sound bloody English (and like you've lived your entire life in England) to me, mate. Oh, wait. Are you lying?

And me calling you a **** had nothing to do with your opinions.
Is it cuz I is black?

I don't know what you call people that falsely accuse you in public,
"Slanderers". Oral defemation is called "slander". It's in the dictionary and everything.

but I call those people ****s.
Mhh... I don't think that is in the dictionary. How do you pronounce that? "Stars"? / "Asterisks"? / "8-bit bugs"?

Good day to you sir.
Well, at 22:20, it's kinda... Night. It's dark and everything! Daytime is when the sun is shining. And please, show a little respect...It's "Sir". Non-British people usually have such good English skills. You, not so much.

Ripster was a significantly different sort of badger. He often employed actual knowledge and experience in his vitriol.

...vitriol.

That word, it doesn't mean what you think it means!

Please turn off the forum censorship, it makes this discussion a lot easier. Go to profile -> account settings -> look and layout and tick the box that says "Leave words uncensored." you'll know it's worked when you can read the word "****" without any asterisks.

Thanks for the tip on that!

I need to use the word "****" more often. It's one of the more underutilized insults here in the U.S.

It's the one word here in the States that you never want to say out loud above all others.

I know, here in the Bible Belt where I work, saying "goddamn ****" could surely result in instant termination.

All I've taken from this thread is **** is now a word, Chyros thinks he can tell me what to do and throws his toys out the cot when I don't, and that he cares so, so much about Brits, but then states he isn't British himself so his pants must be on fire.  I think he's really mad at me that I have a Model M that he's told me "even I don't have".
