This came out just a bit before 2009 came to an end (December 12th to be exact).
The Cherry Click Ball seems to be another product designed by Cherry Asia for the Japanese and also Taiwanese market and marketed under the Scythe brand (just like those nifty Cherry MX red boards). Cherry Germany had never heard of it, so I doubt we will see these popup in different markets any time soon.

Purpose is questionable. But hey. It has a cool Cherry wrist band and blue LEDs! Apparently it clicks too! I'm sold?!

Looks like you'd use it in the same way and for the same purpose that I use my L40 Trackball (travel mouse). Does it have a scrollwheel? (Youtube isn't working for me at the moment, internet connection where I am is pretty ****)

Nice find. It's probably used with beamer presentations.
