Title: How to mitigate backlight bleed-through on underside of keycaps?
Post by: Art of Payce on Sat, 16 July 2016, 02:45:15
I like Varmilo's mint front-side printed PBTs, but I don't like the blacklight bleed. See video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GApV6WhXWxQ) for reference. I'm thinking about painting the undersides with really fine paint marker. Any ideas?

I've put small pieces of black electrical tape on the underside of the keycap where the LED is located. It still lets the light disperse around the cap, but stops that big blob of light that hits the cap.

This (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=66567.0) seems quite effective.

Not a bad idea for a diffused effect. However...

This is it. I didn't realize such tape existed. Thank you.

Also, your quote is a most elegant justification and conversation piece for my coworkers in the future.

A quote from the great (or humble, as he would probably have it) Eiiti Wada himself!

this is such a good idea! I was wondering if someone found them slightly annoying like I do. I do like them led lights, but it does looks a bit odd when I see the underside of the kecaps more clearly then the lettering on the keycap.

So to sum up:
I just stick aluminium tape into the inside of the caps?
And where can I get that tape!?

The thread I linked suggests the tape is used for ducts and such (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=66567.msg1565369#msg1565369) - so maybe an air-conditioning supply business?
