I hope this thread hasn't already been started :D
Show off what movies you have!
I have quite a few (over 130)

I went all HDD in 2009ish..
That's a nice trove you got there..
These things come in waves.. in 10 years.. Stupid Hipsters will try to buy RARE DVDs from you for $350 a piece..
Are you not doing blurays now ?
-
hi, yeah, i have a couple blu rays but normally i will buy a few dvd's when i'm out near markets because they are so damn cheap. i've owned some of my dvd's for years so i guess i just started buying loads :p
-
Looks like the forgotten cabinet in my basement. I own so many films I forgot I owned.
-
I'm one of those people who don't buy dvds and only watch a film once
-
All my DVDs are packed in a box somewhere since we moved, haven't unpacked them because I've ripped them all and put them on my home media server.
They were taking up too much space anyway. :))
Nice collection you've got there though.
-
by the looks of it, dvd's are a thing of the past. guess i gotta get rid of my floppy disks, too :'(

At first glance, I didn't see Harry Potter but after a moment my eyes focused and there it was.

I collect dvd/bluray just like some of us here collect artisans. Something about the physical copies, box arts, and neat placement please my humble soul.

It's a left over evolutionary trait.. an obsession with collecting for a rainy day..
Like those penguins who obsessively collect pebbles..

Honestly we have sold off most of ours sans 100+ or so which we can't see to give away, we have gone mostly digital due to space saving (And quality). We used to have quite a few though (Kept mostly the Disney stuff)
-
same here, i love the physical aspect of having them. yes, i have my favorites copied to my computer but i still prefer to own the hard copy. normally when it comes to collections such as James Bond, the remastered collection shows an image of '007' when all the disks are together. little stuff like that makes me appreciate the hard copies more. just like how some people collect old game cartridges when you could just buy a RPi with literally every game on an emulator.

well you don't get perfect accuracy emulation.. that's the thing..
But that nintendo mini is looking like it would..
-
i guess people mostly look for high quality over dvd quality which also makes it more of a specialty similar to emulations compared to the actual cartridges and the computers that ran them.

That depends on the movies themselves. I still keep a box full of vhs when it comes to Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton, Kung fu and Samurai. The scratchiness and mono audio are parts of the appeal.
-
I only buy movies I like, but stopped collecting around 2011.
The last DVD I purchased was Inception.
99% of these were purchased at pawn shops or swap meets for $1-2 each.
Some nice rare ones in there too if you look ;)

oh yeah, i love a good black and white samurai movie, yojimbo is one of my favourites.
nice collection there, i see star wars (if that was what you were referring to by rare). i used to have episode 1-3 collection on VHS which is now very rare. sadly i sold it a few years ago without noticing. also, i got all of my bond films from a market, paying about $20 (there is 19 films) so i also like to keep my films as cheap as possible as i know eventually they may be worth the purchase.

All that remains

i guess 2001: a space odyssey is pretty cool :p. still never understood the overly long ape silent intro with black-box-thing xD

All my stuff is in boxes aside from a DS and that book--they became bookends for a quick photo shoot on my desk (DVD ends?)
-
Yeah, thought it was a book (or a floppy dvd case) but I kean Iin general its a cool dvd to own, I guess.

Private nostalgia..
Those attributes are NOT appealing to the world at large..
Hipsters though... they're not people... so they like that sort of thing..

Gonna need to update my storage system for UHD bluray..
100 gigs per movie.. sigh...........
-
'100 gigs' xD
more like a 400gb disk for the price of blu rays...

hmm?. I just don't have the space T_T
CDs I keep in my car, and DVDs are in one of those standing DVD holders so they don't take up too much space. Some of them I have packed away though.

I like CDs as I can bring them in my car but they also have the album art, case, and sometimes the CD art as well. Vinyl is cool as well but I can't reasonably bring it with me and it's expensive now :(

In my opinion there are many [i[must-see[/i] films but there are not many must-own films. My collection contains mostly classic '80s movies and rarities.
Then I have bought quite a few cheap used DVDs - and even VHS tapes - at flea markets for viewing only once ... and those have been piling up, so a picture of what I have might not be at all representative to what I like.
I used to have a large VHS collection inherited from my dad but it has been culled a few times and there are mostly rarities left.

similar to me, i buy films from markets for dirt cheap but instead of selling them on or throwing them away, i keep them. most i do like so i keep to watch maybe once more one day.

Why though?
They got worn like nothing, you had to rewind - quality was ****.
-
I JUST WANNA SAY ,nowadays, the cellphone and ipad is all, But I really miss the time when I sat down with my friends neighbor together and watching video together. At a lovely night.

i agree with the fact that phones etc can hold lots of movies but i still prefer dvd's because of the actual hard copy. i have a select few of my top films on my phone just in case i leave the house :p
