Post by: fpplaying on Sat, 30 July 2016, 09:27:08
please help me identify this black compact keyboard
I'm searching from Google for small keyboard and found this
Surely not the Noppo Choc Mini

I've got the part number 161890B, but don't have clue with this for the brand or series

Looks very generic. Ask the seller to take a picture of the label under.

I have a feeling it is not from a seller, if you do a google image search on the picture it brings up this page:
http://steveshouse.org/mame/index02.htm (http://steveshouse.org/mame/index02.htm)

The person there took it from a portable PC from the mid-90s or so he claims.  He did this to have a keyboard that would fit in his MAME cabinet.  The website was last updated in 2006 and I think that writing was from around 2003, so the OP could email 'Steve' and ask him if there is a label on the board (if he is even still replying to emails from the site), or just google around for portable PCs with detachable keyboards from the 90's to see if any match that layout (I could not find any).

I think it's a Datacomp. It very loosely resembles the Dauphin DCK-84.

Ok I was bored and searched some more, it looks like it matches certain layout parts from tandy laptops (particularly the 2800 model), check out the laptop here:

it has the same offset number row and shortened modifiers on the left side.  The color scheme is also similar.  But the right hand side is wrong and needs an additional row, but at least it matches the 90's portable computer part of where 'Steve' said he originally got the keyboard from.

Loot at the top of the keyboard.  There are hooks for attaching it to the frame of a portable computer.  It is likely from a portable, not a laptop.  A company called Dolch made (makes?) "luggable" computers with particularly nice keyboards for what they are.  Used for specialist applications like network analyzers, because they had full-size card slots and drive bays.
