Welcome to geekhack! do you currently have any mechanical keyboards? if so what do you have? If not, what are you looking at? Good to have you in the wonderful world of keyboards, just prepare your wallet.

Welcome to Geekhack!

Did you join for the keyboards?  Or the keycap group buys?

Artisan keycaps, perhaps?

Or maybe you're a fan of drama ;)

Or maybe you'd like to build your own keyboard?

I've really been interested in buying a completed keyboard since I saw one sometime ago on the Net.  I bought some of those loose typewriter caps but haven't used them yet.  Looking at the market threads it is a little confusing.  Any tips on finding a completed keyboard?  Has anyone converted some mechanicals to wireless?

Thanks,
Jason

That is an extremely open-ended request.

What kind of keyboard are you looking for?  A commercial product, or a kit someone has built?

Full size?  TKL?  60%?  40%?

What switches?  There are dozens of Cherry, Gateron, Topre, Alps, buckling spring, Outemu, Zealios and more.

Backlighting?  Single or multi-coloured?

ANSI?  ISO?  If ISO, what variant?

And mechanical to wireless had been done a few times. A quick forum search for wireless or Bluetooth will probably provide enough reading material to last a week ;)

Hah, there is just too much I don't know.  Lot of reading to do.  I just bought my first key cap, a lycan mx!  Guess I will work on collecting unique mx keys until I can find that perfect keyboard.  I don't know enough to know which keyboard would be the best for me.  On the classified board so many threads are wtt or wtb, is there a better spot for wts threads ?

Thanks,
Jason

Then your best bet it to try to get along to a meetup, where people generally bring lots of different keyboards that you can try.
