Title: Programmable numpad
Post by: garage_logician on Thu, 18 August 2016, 13:20:30
Anyone here ever assemble one of these?  Seems like after adding switches, LEDS and a controller(?) it would not be a cheap endeavor.  I would like a separate ten key, one that is programmable.  Are there better alternatives?

I got mine earlier this week actually.  There's a thread about them in the Making Stuff forum.

Haven't assembled it yet, but I can tell you the controller and other required SMD components are already installed.  You would only need switches at minimum or LEDs and resistors if you wanted to bling it up.  It even came with stabilizers, which aren't pictured.

The ones on MassDrop are not programmable, are they?

I think you're right. I missed that one.

Found the forum (had the main forum collapsed!), digging for the thread now.

If you want something a little more diy you could build one this way https://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicalKeyboards/comments/3q41gn/photos_npkc_numeric_keypad_build_instructions/? the plate is available from http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/No-Keycaps-and-Switches-included-Cherry-Kailh-Gateron-Switches-Shaft-Testing-Tool-Switch-TesterFor-17-Switches/429151_32595234420.html they also have switches for not a terrible price

just avoid their pcb it is unfortunately awful https://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicalKeyboards/comments/3o9hec/photos_npkc_numpad_pcb/?

I don't know anything about this one, but it seems to do what you want.
