Greetings GeekHack,
I made a promise to myself that if I was able to snag a :~$ynth, that I would dive into the craft. I'd like to thank Techkeys.us and Binge from HungerWorkStudio for creating this opportunity.
I will be starting with blanks to understand the basic process as well as possible, but I also plan to sculpt directly onto the :~$ynth.
Below is my list of initial materials:
- Alumilite Amazing Casting Resin
- Smooth-On Silicone Mold Making Rubber Oomoo 30
- Environmental Technology Mold Release and Conditioner
- Polyform Super Sculpey Firm Oven Bake Clay (Gray)
- Resin Dye
- Wax Carving Tools
- Legos
- Safety Gear
I think this should be enough to begin gravity casting, but I have no prior experience. Are there any materials I should substitute when crafting with the :~$ynth? I would also appreciate recommendations on trusted brands/models for vacuum chambers/pressure pots. Please feel free to offer any advice!

There are a variety of different kinds of resins that can suit your needs. Some cure really fast, which I find are good for testing molds, but they are prone to having bubbles in them. Other resins take longer to cure, but it allows them more time for air bubbles to escape. Some cure white/opaque, and others are crystal clear.
So, depending on what your goal is, it's good to know what you want from your resin.

Hi gohono3, it looks like we're both starting this craft at the same time! I just started myself this week and made a thread to share my experience so far.
I don't have too much advice to give, but it looks like you got all the basics on your list to get started. Good luck :thumb:

How much did you spend for the 'beginners stuff'?
I also thought about making something nice someday..
