Are those cracks in the actual shell?

Are those cracks in the actual shell?
Model Fs used painted plastic housings, and the paint is prone to becoming hard, brittle and cracking. It is just the paint most likely.

Thankfully my XT still looks good. Although, I don't think I've seen this issue on those for some reason.

Back when F-122's were scarce on the ground, I bought one from Taobao for about $200 all told, including shipping and agent fees. When it arrived, it was basically trash. The housing was cracked all to hell, and the controller didn't even work. I had fohat.digs change it to ANSI layout for me, and he also repaired the housing and painted it grey at the same time. I replaced the controller with an xwhatsit capsense controller, and it works and looks great now. http://i.imgur.com/KQWdQIT.jpg
Oh to have had the chance at a like-new specimen for $155 + shipping back then...

for some reason.
XT shell is smaller than the F122.

That "crazing" in the surface layer is pretty common, especially just outside of the openings.
It doesn't really matter too much, although it is unattractive. At least it is often continuous and consistent.
Prices on these roller-coaster quite a bit. Demand is up these days for the internal parts.

$155 and doesn't have the blue dyesubs :))
Then again, I got mine for the price of shipping.

Much thicker too, right?

I can't attest to the comparison, but I know that the XT keyboard has a phenomenally thick top case.
After looking at the lot's picture, the XT case does appear to be around twice as thick. It's sort of a combination of the Model F plastic and the Model M thickness, which is bad news, since the F plastic is softer and the M case is thinner.

No, the F plastic is harder but also more brittle. It also has a shiny "core" layer and a textured "skin" layer that behave differently.
The M plastic is softer but tougher, and is the only component of the M that is superior to the F, in my opinion.

I stand corrected on that matter, but whenever I push on the little bridge between the alphanumeric block and the function keys on my XT, there seems to be a little more give than on the protrusion between Ctrl and Alt on a Model M.

recently picked one up from that same seller, he knows how to pack his keyboards..
