The ability of the Optimus series (http://www.artlebedev.com/optimus/) to display the correct symbols, for each layer you're on, is intriguing
but the price and other problems are too big downsides for it to be a viable option.
But what if you could create a similar albeit a lot more restriced effect with a simpler method than lcd displays for each key.
Using per key programmable rgb lighting, (partly) translucent (relegendable (http://www.keycapsdirect.com/images/faq/Relegendables.jpg)) keycaps and light filter gels, one could create a keyboard that can display the correct symbols for 3 different layers per key.
So I wondered if anyone on this forum ever tried to do this or if someone would be willing to try it?
What are your thoughts on this?
Edit: Found this https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=48584.0;nowap same idea but also no final conclusion only some additional problems were pointed out.
Edit2: Another similar disscussion https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=66953.0 with no conclusion.
Edit3: Did some research since the disscussion from the first link mentioned the potential problem of the filter gel blocking to much light.
After looking at a few wavelength-amplitude graphs of rgb leds and wavelength-transmission graphs of filter gels and I think you should at least be able to get ~50% of the original brightness of the led.
