So what do people like about the OnePlus phones? My current phone is dying, and I've heard positive things about these, so I am looking at the OnePlusThree. From my [minor] research, the advantages seem like a good price for the included features and a custom OS without all the usual bloatware. Does that sound about right? What else does these phones offer that make them worth consideration?
I haven't really been sure whether to go with these third parties, or stick with the known (at least to me) companies, i.e. Huawei vs Samsung. With this latest fiasco, I'm pretty sure that I'm going to bite the bullet and make the switch to Android. But I'm still skeptical.
Thanks! Didn't know that, and with the lackluster reviews their windows tablet received, I wasn't sure if the phones would suffer from the same problems.I haven't really been sure whether to go with these third parties, or stick with the known (at least to me) companies, i.e. Huawei vs Samsung. Huawei makes the Nexus 6P for Google. That's a pretty good indicator of their ability to make a solid handset, I would say.
The OnePlus Two is the only "off brand" phone I have used extensively, and it's a great phone. Was honestly very nearly as good as the S6 IMO, and at half the price.
With carriers changing away from the subsidized phone plans these cheap, high quality phones are making a lot more sense.
If you're gonna be doing alot of software diy, get the nexus..
if you want the flexibility of android but a more apple experience, get the one plus
If you want something like apple.. GET APPLE..
It just came out that Huawei all contain a backdoors.
Apples have touchdeath (6 and 7).
S7 catches fire...
Honestly, the phone landscape hasn't changed much in the last couple years, there hasn't been any significant leaps every generation like there was 7 years ago. I looked at the Oppos and frankly, while nice, they're overpriced for what you get. I don't really like Samsung but the Galaxy S4 and S5 are some of the hardest deals to beat, great performance, good screens, and some of the best screen to body ratios you can find.

I remember you previously discussing in a different thread all these backdoors in China-based hardware companies. Good lord.
Screw it, I'm getting a flip phone.

If you're worried about back doors..
Get either a samsung, or an apple..
At least with those 2 brands, you'll only have AMERICAN back doors..
Vs a Huawei which will give you the American + China backdoors combo..

So I can choose which surveillance state I wish to expose myself to? I'll take the USA, because at least we have a fake democracy. Choice is what the USA is all about!

I got my OnePlus 3 a month or so ago, and I love it. Everything about it is just smooth and really fast, and it is a huge upgrade over my old Nexus 5. I especially love the display and the fingerprint reader, and while the display isn't the highest resolution, it still looks really crisp and colorful.
Feel free to ask if you have any questions about the OP3 :)
if one were to get a huawei or something and flash a custom rom on it from day 0, would it be all good?
more on topic tho: ive had a oneplus one for a couple of years and it's been great

Do you think the government spends billions on their spy programs to produce something THAT simple to overcome?
They got back doors in the firmware which opens up access to inject their software over the internet.
Some have speculated that they're well capable of injection through slight modulation of typical carrier frequencies.
So, when you've got just a radio station, the phone can listen to it, to the radio it's just slightly fuzzy sound, but the phone will be able to filter out the underlying code to re-establish Spy-mode.
