Title: OnePlus phones?
Post by: vivalarevolución on Sun, 04 September 2016, 08:20:55
So what do people like about the OnePlus phones?  My current phone is dying, and I've heard positive things about these, so I am looking at the OnePlusThree.  From my [minor] research, the advantages seem like a good price for the included features and a custom OS without all the usual bloatware.  Does that sound about right?  What else does these phones offer that make them worth consideration?

That's about it... but unfortunately the three is considerably more expensive for what seems like a relatively minor upgrade over the two, which was a little disappointing IMO.

I still might grab one, though, as it's still much cheaper than any worthy competitors. (I haven't personally tried any of Huawei's offerings, but from I can tell they still aren't on the level of the OnePlus)

Okay, so I pretty much answered my own question.

I haven't really been sure whether to go with these third parties, or stick with the known (at least to me) companies, i.e. Huawei vs Samsung.  With this latest fiasco, I'm pretty sure that I'm going to bite the bullet and make the switch to Android.  But I'm still skeptical.

Huawei makes the Nexus 6P for Google. That's a pretty good indicator of their ability to make a solid handset, I would say.

The OnePlus Two is the only "off brand" phone I have used extensively, and it's a great phone. Was honestly very nearly as good as the S6 IMO, and at half the price.

With carriers changing away from the subsidized phone plans these cheap, high quality phones are making a lot more sense.

just be aware that OnePlus customer support is awful, so if you do buy an OP3, then you should make an effort to handle it with care (it's a six-inch phone, so unless you have monster hands then it can be easy to mishandle).

Dude I have the OP3 and its amazing.

The finger print scanner is so fast. I can open up my phone faster than any other I've tried.

The ram, processor, camera are all really good too.

Phone never slows down, pictures are amazing.

Battery life is so-so, but the dash charging is crazy! Full charge 5%-100% in around 40-45 minutes.

I would highly recommend it.

Thanks!   Didn't know that,  and with the lackluster reviews their windows tablet received,  I wasn't sure if the phones would suffer from the same problems.

It just came out that Huawei all contain a backdoors.
Apples have touchdeath (6 and 7).
S7 catches fire...

Honestly, the phone landscape hasn't changed much in the last couple years, there hasn't been any significant leaps every generation like there was 7 years ago. I looked at the Oppos and frankly, while nice, they're overpriced for what you get. I don't really like Samsung but the Galaxy S4 and S5 are some of the hardest deals to beat, great performance, good screens, and some of the best screen to body ratios you can find.

I keep telling people NOT to buy Huawei,  They won't listen to me..

Jesus.. Huawei is a HUGE player in the Great Firewall, and ALL Governmental data infrastructure of China..

Like,  it's literally the Chinese NSA..

Hospital Network,  Huawei provider
Blood Bank Network,  Huawei provider
Banking Wifi, Huawei provider..

I remember you previously discussing in a different thread all these backdoors in China-based hardware companies.  Good lord.

Screw it, I'm getting a flip phone.

If you're worried about back doors..

Get either a samsung, or an apple..

At least with those 2 brands, you'll only have AMERICAN back doors..

Vs a Huawei which will give you the American + China backdoors combo..

So I can choose which surveillance state I wish to expose myself to?  I'll take the USA, because at least we have a fake democracy.  Choice is what the USA is all about!

No matter what, you're still exposed to your cell provider who sells the data to anyone who asks.

I got my OnePlus 3 a month or so ago, and I love it. Everything about it is just smooth and really fast, and it is a huge upgrade over my old Nexus 5. I especially love the display and the fingerprint reader, and while the display isn't the highest resolution, it still looks really crisp and colorful.

Feel free to ask if you have any questions about the OP3 :)

Just ordered a Oneplus3....
Nexus 5 is dying after 3 years of abuse, especially since my dad helped me break it.

I'm going to be waiting a month before I finally get it due to their stock going to the uk for a carrier to sell at their stores. So yay?

Same opinions here, last phone was SGS4. Big leaps forward are fingerprint scanners for sure, on displays, hardware etc I don't think there has been a huge leap. OP3 has been a great phone, it was pretty expensive but got a solid flagship stuff for the money. I'd recommend it if pricerange and android is your play area and you don't need without exceptions a 1440p screen or dual speakers. One of the best phones for 400 €/$ with Axon 7 etc, depending your preferences ofcourse.

I think a lot of what has been said so far has convinced me to buy one.  My phone is malfunctioning more each week:  laggy behavior, dropped calls, random restarts, running hotter than usual, loose I/O button.  If the wait for an OP3 is a month at this point, I might as well order one soon.

I do prefer iOS, but I don't care for some of Apple's other nonsense.

Do you think the government spends billions on their spy programs to produce something THAT simple to overcome?

They got back doors in the firmware which opens up access to inject their software over the internet.

Some have speculated that they're well capable of injection through slight modulation of typical carrier frequencies.

So, when you've got just a radio station,   the phone can listen to it,  to the radio it's just slightly fuzzy sound,  but the phone will be able to filter out the underlying code to re-establish Spy-mode.

I'm going on 2 years with my OPO and its still going very strong.  On that note though, I may be going back to apple in the next generation

Okay, so I ended up ordering a OnePlus 3.  Should be here in a couple weeks.  Seemed like the best deal for a no nonsense phone.

I ordered a couple cases as well.  Man, these things are huge.  Not even sure if I want a phone this big.  Oh well.  We'll see.
