Title: Any way to do a Topre-style landing pad mod for mx type switches?
Post by: ItsBarney01 on Wed, 14 September 2016, 05:52:21
Hi everyone,

I was trying to think of different ways to make mx switches quieter, and at the moment the only way that I know of is using o-rings in the keycaps.  :(

Is there a way to dampen the upstroke like there is in Topre boards?

Also if there is any other ways to make the actual switch quieter that would be interesting to know as well, as this: https://deskthority.net/photos-f62/o-ring-2-o-t6118.html was the only other thing I could find but it effectively just does the same thing as an o-ring.

Thanks!

cherry's new mx silent switches try to take the silencing approach that topre takes. outside of this, it's unheard of for user-modded upstroke silencing; some report lubrication as a good way to make the switch quieter, but i'm not sure as to how effective this is, personally

Ahem, latex mod (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=50632.msg1113167#msg1113167). Switch covers from Uniqey or ZealPC achieve something similar.

MX Silent has damping on the stem, which is similar to damped Alps/Matias switches.

Wow, that trampoline mod is pretty cool. I will certainly have to try that. I don't know why that would silence the upstroke but from the video it clearly does! Thanks a lot for the help.

never mind, I didn't see the latex part. This all makes perfect sense now!
