Title: Help with dead GON
Post by: heedpantsnow on Wed, 14 September 2016, 08:37:20
Hey guys, I have a GON NerD 60 that I added the bluetooth kit to.  Last night, all was fine.  This morning, only the charging LED will come on.  I've tried:
Bluetooth connect key, BT toggle key
above while plugged into charger
above while plugged into computer
toggled the back dip switches while plugged into computer
unplugged and replugged many times
changed usb cables

At this point, I'm thinking one of my (admittedly crappy) solder joints has failed.  The SMD ones for the power circuitry were really, really small.

1) Is there anything else I can try?
2) Is there anyone I can pay to fix this?

Thanks.

You can pay me to fix it :p  Can't really diagnose off that data, have you tried seeing if it shows in the com ports or under any other usb devices?

Could you post pics of the part you think could be the issue?

Does not show up in device manager; Windows used to make a sound when it was plugged in but not now.  Are you located in Australia?  Shipping to/from you would take forever and $$$, right?

I can't post any right now; I loaned my macro lens to a friend and my phone won't focus close enough.  :(

You could go back in & reflow the solder in the suspect areas. I doubt it's a component failure.

Yeah, there's nothing brown or burnt, no magic smoke, and no smell.  Just got to get a proper pencil tip for my iron to do it.  I originally did it with a chisel tip.

So I tried reflowing the joints on the small IC's for the charging circuit. Still nothing.

Is there anyone willing to fix this for me?  Please help!
