Title: Question for Sneakerheads
Post by: nubbinator on Wed, 14 September 2016, 19:34:12
How do you justify the cost?

I never knew I absolutely wanted a pair of shoes until I saw the Kobe XI Elite Mambacurials:

(https://content.nike.com/content/dam/one-nike/en_us/season-2016-fl/shop/Launch/09-2016/KOBE-XI/KOBE-XI-ELITE-MAMBACURIAL-MAIN.jpg.transform/default/KOBE-XI-ELITE-MAMBACURIAL-MAIN.jpg)

More here (http://www.nike.com/us/en_us/launch/c/2016-09/kobe-xi-mambacurial?cp=EUNS_SOC_TWIT_BB_140916_KOBEXI&ref=https%253A%252F%252Ft.co%252F6R9rz2JVNl)

But $160 is a ridiculous amount for a pair of shoes that will likely sell out in seconds and I'm sure will flip for orders of magnitude more.  And, let's be honest, most will probably spend their life in a box in someone's closet or sneaker room.  What's the point of getting a bunch of kickass shoes that you'll never wear?

What's the point of collecting artisans you'll never/rarely use? Same reason why they do it. Just to have them really.

$160 isn't that bad though, the design is quite nice on those.

Yup..

and pretty much the only people who know and can appreciate your $160 sneakers are other sneakerheads..

because it's not always obvious that any 1 pair of shoes is expensive.

$160 isn't bad for baller shoes, especially if that's the only pair you'll buy for a long time.

If you can, buy them, wear them, ruin them. Treat them how clacks are meant to be used!

They look like watermelons you can wear on your feets.

I recommend buying them immediately.

I wear all my **** no matter the value, just like all my OG sets go on my boards and all my Clacks are fingered. Wear those till they fall apart!

I paid about that amount for a pair of shoes once. It was a pair of black dress Johnson & Murphy's in about 1987.

I have had them re-soled and re-heeled at least twice and they are still my primo dress shoes today.

But I am a ridiculous old geezer.

Gosh. The longer I browse here the more I get into shoes. And it doesn't help that I need to replace my fitness and running shoe, as well as hiking boots, soon.

Not to mention I haven't bought a pair of shoes in a couple of years, so that excuse is creeping from the back of my mind to the foreground. ;_;

Aren't those like actual bb court shoes though? They do look sweet tho and good court shoes are still going to cost you about 100 bucks.

I bought the Kobe XI Elite lows for $150 and have not regretted them. They are cool as **** and I have started to wear them a lot more than I did before.

Do it.

I've been collecting bespoke leather shoes for the last 5 years or so, and recently got into sneakers
how many do I own? I can say it's never enough
I can conclude a few things:
1. Shoes are made to be worn, so use it :D even if it's only twice a year
2. Give em care, my older bespoke is on it's 6th years and it just get better by age (patina)
3. Buyer's remorse is a bad thing, if you get them every time you buy a pair, stop, this shoe hobby isn't for you
4. Buy if you can tressure em, impulsive buy is not recommended

Follow those and you'll be a happy shoe collector :D

nubbs you should get a pair.  i like the bright colors. :)

and yeah i would just wear them.  it looks like many shoes will just deteriorate and fall apart after time, even if one keeps them in a box.
