THE GURUBOARD: AN UPCOMING KEYBOARD FOR COMFORTABLE TOUCH TYPING

Always on the home row: a new level of typing for programmers, authors and other professional text creators.

Efficient touch typing requires the hands on the home row. Meaning the index fingers resting on the F and J keys. On a regular keyboard, editing requires the right hand to constantly leave the home row for the cursor keys. Then find the home row again to continue typing. Another leave for using the mouse. It takes time. And is not convenient. Hamburg, Germany located company Absolute Software GmbH announces a new product targeting these issues, scheduled for Q4/2010. The keyboard integrates cursor controls and a pointing stick into the keyboard's alpha part putting them into direct home row reach. A preview including a working color configurator is available on www.guru-board.com.

Sorry, haven't visited the forum in ages, what is the story behind these? I remember a member on the forum built one of these by hand and I was drooling over it... did he decide to get it mass produced?

Fo' sho.  Check the "Mini Keyboard with Trackpoint" thread in Keyboard Mods for details.  He's shopping around for manufacturers, distribution and such.  Hopefully, he's wrapping that up and getting into production soon.

Low force linear and somewhat limited in availability thus far. Basically like a Black but with the force of a Brown. I'm working on a review of a Cherry board with them.

Reds are only available in Asia (Korea, specifically, IIRC).  I think they are a custom switch.  They certainly aren't mass-produced, yet.

Yeah, I emailed some koreans (http://www.nrckr.com/mall/) but haven't recieved anything back. I made fun of the japanese a whole bunch in my email to increase my chances of getting a reply. I guess none of them speak western english :(

This would work if the Korean name for their country actually began with the same consonant sound as begins the name of the holy city of Qom. However, the Korean word for Korea is "Chosen" (pronounced with a hard s instead of a soft s like the English word). Therefore, it would be difficult to justify such an unusual spelling.

English is a Germanic language with many Romance loanwords. It is neither a Semitic language nor an Indo-Iranian language, so I think Q is right out.

Of course, there's a book on Google Books which suggests that the English language should adopt an alphabet of 120 letters, so that not only the sound of words, but also their etymology,  could be accurately and  unambiguously indicated.

That last one isn't a question!

I've been living in Tokyo for a little while and picked them up on a side street in Akihabara. A surprisingly large number of stores had them, and when the place I planned to get it for cheap at was suddenly out, I went searching and found it for even less.

Cost was ￥6900, so around $75 at current exchange rates. It also has NKRO, which was completely unexpected until I looked more closely the on the box at the store. Drove me from "Probably a good buy" to "GET. NOW."

I'll be coming back to the US in the spring (probably late Feb). Depending what I decide to do about getting a Filco Tenkeyless, I may or may not have room to bring a spare one back with me.

Did you pick up an ANSI layout or Japanese layout one?

I saw at least one ANSI layout with reds when I went looking last.

ANSI. It was interesting, because when I did find a place where they weren't sold out, the display model and the sign said Japanese layout but the box said ユーロ (Euro layout, but it's just ANSI with a euro symbol on the 5 key). To top it all off, none of the boxes said Japanese layout but all had a picture of the Japanese layout. I told a clerk I was worried and he let me take it out to check before I bought it.

I guess I'll wait until your review until I decide to pick one up (won't be going through Tokyo again for a while anyways, going to Hokkaido in February to ski :D).

I'll be heading to Furano first (Feb 7th), then pass through Sapporo and checkout the snow festival on the 10th. Then make my way to Niseko for a few days, meet up with a bunch of people. Then checkout Rusutsu on the 14th, and head back to Ueda on the 15th (then back to work for me :( ).
