Title: Worried about China Spy Chips..
Post by: tp4tissue on Fri, 16 September 2016, 17:38:03
Just bought a Weme- brand (generic rebrand) usb desktop layflat harddrive dock..

On sale, $13

After looking at their website, This now looks like the most sketchy product..    Literally nothing works on their website..  Feels like they just threw it together as a cover..

Took apart,  looked up each chip individually,

Dimensions of all chips check out..

If in doubt plug it in to a virtual machine connected to a router with no internet connection and watch for attempted network activity?

OKOK...   even more suspicious..   it comes with a 24watt AC adapter..  Now,  why would it need anything close to 24 watts hrrrmm??   Hrrrrrrrrmmm??

3.5 Inch drives go 10-12watts tops...

OK nevermind..  Spin-Up Current can approach 2 Amps.. so the 24 watt checks out..  Although Tp4 would've rather accomplished this with larger caps vs a larger supply...

Don't worry, Colonel Sanders will smack them down before they smuggle the recipe out of the country.

At least we know all of them will have NSA-backdoored firmware, so you will be spied on by both Chinese and American intelligence
