Hey everyone
After completing one set of 50 orders for R1 and having some interest via PM for R2, I have discussed this with Greatfirewall (who's organizing the manufacturing in and shipping from China).
This time we're able to offer RGB underside LEDs (so maybe choose some clear acrylic!) and carbon fiber plates. However besides the increased prices of the higher end parts, Greatfirewall did not account for some fees on his side in R1 so the base prices of the kits have to go up.
Looking to deliver another 50 units.
New pricing:
New pricing (all in USD):
Base kit (with either HHKB or Normal plate): $99. Note, for R1 the HHKB kit was always additional on the base kit with normal plate, this is no longer the case. You can purchase EITHER the HHKB or Normal 40% top plate in the base kit.
Additional metal plate (HHKB or Normal): $20
Upgrade to black carbon fibre for the base kit: $25
Upgrade from black carbon fibre to other color (requires the upgrade to black carbon fibre): $5
Add another carbon fibre plate in any color or style: $30
Additional acrylic mid section (any color): $18
RGB Leds: FREE!
NOTE: Last time shipping from China was billed separately but now it's included in the base kit price.
PRICES DO NOT INCLUDE PAYPAL FEES TO ME. 1.04x is the rate to use when calculating your own kit total. Prices do however include all fees to Greatfirewall (who's using paypal which costs another 4%).
Since it took around 5 months last time from placing the order to shipping from North America, I do not want to list parcel pricing and will collect this when I receive the order from China. In R1 I collected this upfront and parcel prices increased a bit but I had enough to cover this (international pricing changes a lot more often). To international customers: you are responsible for your own import taxes based on the **value declared**. Insured or uninsured options are available to USA / International. Insured tends to be a lot cheaper but again, I'll send out a survey after the parcels have shipped from China to determine shipping.
Example order: Base kit, in gold carbon.
Total before shipping from North America: $85+$30+$6, $121. $121 x 1.04 = $125.84
Here are the colors available for carbon fiber and render of the PCB:

Now this seems very similar to the AMJ40 right? Here's a statement from Greatfirewall on the matter:
They copy almost all of the 40% layout include golbat and plank.
They made amj60 by copy gh60chn, made amj mini by copy kmac mini, made amj40 by copy other 40% kit, made amjpad by copy ghpad, they even copy a tkg-toolkit fireware tool from tkg.io.
All their products are copy others idea.
So if you don't care about supporting designers you can get a similar kit for cheaper but otherwise for not too much more you can get the authentic product.
Here is a link to geekhack to read about the original group buy and you can read the comments for pictures that people submitted:

And finally, the interest check link!

Final note: I can assemble units for people but shipping of switches to Canada is usually very expensive. If you want your kit delivered to someone else for building this can be arranged.

I'm totally interested!
May I ask if the firmware is still the same or if there will be the possibility to use more than 3 layers?

I will inquire about firmware differences and whether 3 layers will be possible this time. I'm fairly certain it was changed for the rgb leds.

I'm ready, Gl1tch3d, & I pm'ed a little earlier! This is going to be Great! :thumb: :thumb: :p :thumb:

sure.
The firmware support more than 3 layers

Thank you very much :)
Actually, I'd also like to ask GL1TCH3D if there is the possibility to decrease the shipping cost to Europe.
Obviously, shipping from Canada to EU is very expensive. Wouldn't it be cheaper to send part of the order directly from China to someone who lives in Europe?
Anyway, I don't know how many europeans are intererested in the golbat or if you have already found a solution to this issue.
I simply thought about this when I realized that (for me) shipping will be > 50% of the base kit

如果有人愿意统一接受并分发给你们,并且数量足够多( 数量太少的话我想也不会划算),我可以直接帮你发到欧洲。
sure.

Are plans for a round 2 still in the pipeline?

I really hope so. I still need some Golbat parts from round 1. The last time I talked w/ Gl1tch3d, he said the various new 40s may make it difficult for rd 2. I myself, still believe rd 2 would be successful. Well, your guess is as good as mine. I really hope to hear some positive news soon.

Someday I'll have my HHKB Golbat :'(
But I have noticed the upsurge in 40% kits and PCB ideas over the past few months, mostly from Reddit. I think a R2 would still go over well also, especially with the crazy amount of options it offers for customization.
-
I have always think using 40% would be "trying too hard", it seems impractical.
though I have never used one before.
so I thought I will give this a try :)
I did not participate in previous group buy, so I want to ask:
what is in the base kit?
are they:
- pcb
- metal plate (normal or HHKB style)
- case (is this acrylic-sandwitch style?)
$85 is a good price, I guess.
though I need to consider the shipping. :)
-
I've been wanting to try a 40%. I was hoping to get in a little cheaper in the event I don't like it but I'd probably be in for this GB.
-
Count me in.
-
I am definitely interested! :).

Definitely interested also.

Same here, I hope to hear something back soon. I really want both the hhkb & standard Golbat kits. I really hope to hear something back soon! Well, my fingers are definitely crossed!

I posted it up on reddit first to make sure there were no mistakes in the form before posting here (larger audience, would be faster to pick up on issues)
