Title: I wonder why this isn't a thing (Like Hydro but BETTER??)
Post by: pixelpusher on Mon, 19 September 2016, 10:38:00
I wonder why no one has thought of producing a good quality doubleshot set with:

Then you set your RGB backlighting to blue and you have HYDRO  :p    You could even include a novelty item or two in all transparent to get full color (through your RGB backlighting) on the keycap.

I'm almost tempted to get some cheap Vortex caps and dye them for this effect!  I guess we've yet to see translucent caps praised for their quality??  Why is this not a thing??

TLDR: Two-toned doubleshot with POM transparent legends that is classic yet interesting with RGB backlighting.

A lot of people value no keycap glow through there keycaps here and would rather see the glow around their keycaps. I understand where you are coming from, but GMK is also held with great high regards in terms of quality of their caps.

I would definitely check out massdrop though if those are keys that interest you. They pop up every now and then for a fairly good price.

Because RGB backlit is dead to me.

Yeah, shine through looks like bootyhole.

More options.  Don't like blue? Go pink or orange or green

Yeah, shine through looks like bootyhole.

I don't like the way thin caps let light through either, but every now and then I need some backlighting. :)

I might pick them up and experiment.  From what I've seen, once the pbt portion is dyed slightly, the amount of shine through is minimal.  It's mostly just through the POM material. I wish someone other than vortex would try it out. I guess the only way it would look perfect is if it switch and led were designed like the Logitech ones with the focused lens in the center of the stem

Because LED's on most keyboards are not centered. They are either bottom or top mounted. Some letters on the keyboard will not be lit, giving an uneven look. gross.

Also if you are not going to use thick ass pbt, you are going to get bleeding through the cap.

Most everybody on this community will tell you that shinethrough keycaps are a no go. the novelty of shinethrough/backlit keycaps are usually outclassed by a good colorway designed to mesh with various custom keyboard builds/designs

I agree.

Yeah, shine through looks like bootyhole.

I kinda feel the same, in fact I'd go as far as to say backlighting doesn't really interest me at all.

I'd prefer a nice underglow for the case than light around the keys

And that's exactly why I jumped on the Nylon Diffuser version of the M65-A

Typing in the dark isn't great for your eyes anyways. More "ambient" light, separate from your screen, reduces eye strain... and therefore negates the need for shine-through backlighting.

Plus it does look like bootyhole, as mentioned previously.  :))
