Looking for a new keyboard, but having a hard time deciding, or rather, I am afraid I'm missing something.
TKL at the largest. I think 75% might be optimal
I would LOVE for it to have a shorter space bar so I can jam more keys in there (like a olkb)
HHKB has lost me on moving the tilde. I use that key hundreds of times a day and it _cannot_ be different than my laptop keyboard.
Modals kind of suck. My poker II frustrates me when I accidentally put it in some weird mode and I can't get anything done for ten minutes. The other day I couldn't hit enter for some reason so I couldn't even search for the pdf.
Want it programmable, unless the factory firmware has a super genius setup. I want thinks like tap mods and probably other layers.
A clicky switch probably. I like mx and gateron blues, but would need orings to use it at work. Haven't tried Zealios or Matias.
idgaf about backlight
Probably willing to spend ~$200 (hitting that tilde was a pita because of the Poker II)
Suggestions appreciated!

I suggest you to read the instruction manual.

+1 ^^ but if you NEED a new keyboard, what about a QFR with a Frosty Flake controller?

I'd just like to point out that O-rings won't un-click a clicky switch.

What?

Of course not, but it makes it quiet enough for the office.

That sounds pretty reasonable.

I think the limiting factor is the programmability. I can think of a few keyboards I would recommend, but they wouldn't be programmable: Filco Majestouch 2 or WASD Code/V2 for Cherry/compatible switches or a TKL keyboard with Matias switches (I own the V80). The tilde would be in the normal spot and you wouldn't spend >$200.

Yeah that's too bad. I can do some key stuff in software in the OS, but that's annoying having to set it up on every computer I use. the V80 seems pretty good, and the qfr + programmable logic board seems like the best option for me. Thanks!

good luck! thinking of getting one myself!
