I was looking through a Russia Comic-Con cosplay thread this morning and I mean come on, it's not even a fair comparison. I am almost embarrassed for the US. Almost.

gonna need some examples surely

Pretty sure that Comic-Con cosplay conventions are a fair method of measure here.

I second this statement.
We can't make fair judgement based on your words turtle

If geeks in Russia can look like models and actors, and when 70% of US Comic-Con cosplayers are in.... not so good a shape, it makes me embarrassed to be an American.

I think this is probably just a photographers taking ---no fatchix-- photos..
Or, perhaps American otakus are more secure with their bodies, such that they're ok with dressing up even if they're a bit too much pudge..

Slavic harry potter, haha.

Am I missing something? I don't see a difference

I stand corrected, those are pretty attractive

Also interesting to note after looking through these photos again there is not a single black person in the background. I saw 1 Asian guy, and only 4 fat people. I am very surprised by how whitewashed that crowd was.
-
In russia , Everyone wants to leave, no one wants to stay, so you wouldn't see many mixed guys going there purposely.
And for Brack guyz.. Idk, russia's too cold prolly.. hahahahahaha

4 too many
makes sense, the "whitewashed" bit. I imagine it's the same in China/Japan etc.

Are you talking about the Russian comic con or the American one?

I don't think "whitewashed" can be applied to Russia.

It's not only the women in those pictures that are in pretty good shape.
I guess working 12h on a potato field in central Russia and a strict oatmeal diet gives turns you into a super hottie ;)
Very curious how most of them would look after living an American life for a year.
I spent 6 weeks on Hawaii and gained 5kg, took me 6 months to train it off again!

They all get fat in 'Murica.
Everyone in 'Murica gets fat..
Because food cost is only between 1-15% of income
Whereas everywhere else in the world WITHOUT an obesity problem sees that figure jump to 25-50% of income.
It's much harder to get Fat, if it costs half your salary.

"Food is relatively cheap" doesn't fully explain it.
Which food is cheap explains it a lot better.

Someone needs to go take statistics again.. hhahahahaha

I'm going full on oatmeal as of today. I'll keep you all posted

It doesn't work if you don't also start the potato farm (WITHOUT) mechanical tools.

You can't science me right now. I'm in the oatmeal zone

Someone needs to widen his horizon...
The food that is so cheap in the US according to you is mostly "junk food" while eating healthy in the US can be a lot more expensive than in other countries. Try buying fresh vegetables, some non-processed cheese and high fiber bread and you will quickly exceet the 1-15% of the average income.
Food is also VERY cheap in many asian countries, whole nations live off little hawker centers/food courts but the food they serve is not as junk as the "cheap food" widely available in the US.
Then looking at Europe, a region where junk food is common but not as dominant as in the US. Here you will find much lower prices on fresh food like vegetables and bread. Cheap food isn't necessarily as junk here, but it is getting worse ... obesity statistics will show that.
But ... you see it isn't as one-dimensional as your elementary school statistic might indicate. Different parts of the world offer different food for cheap and no matter how much of their household income is spent on food, the majority of people will go for the most affordable food.

Stuff that's wrong
hahahahaha..
Junk food is actually VERY expensive.. calories per dollar
People have this sense that all the Fat guys go to mcdonalds, pound bags and bags of chips..
yea,, SOME fat guys do.. But the majority of Fat guys can't afford to go to mcdonalds to get fat from it. Or buy enough bags of Chips to get fat from that..
The middle class fat guys (small percentage of all fat guys) are the only ones pounding chips and macdonalds.
so, What is the Majority America fat on.. Primarily, Cheap sugar, and Cheap loss leader bread.
For example, $1 buys you 1.25lbs of bread @ most large chain groceries..
$1 also buys you approximately 2 to 3lbs of pure sugar.
-
You have to drink the sugar to get really obese. Just eating isn't enough...
Free refills really come in handy there.
-
By the way, Russian food can be very healthy, like this chicken breast with buckwheat:

or very unhealthy like those pelmeni with sourcream:

How you take sugar is not important.. the fact that it's CHEAP is..
That low cost is built into your diet.
We know sugar tastes good
We know people like sugar
So, if sugar is cheap, let's put it in everything.
Because, people like sugar, and producers like Cheap..
That is the cross section, which is why we talk about sugar.. Any one habitual difference such as drinking/eating sugar would only explain narrow groups of individual behavior..
Whereas Overall broad stroke costs, explain Obesity as a whole.

LONG LIVE THE PERESTROIKA!
