Title: Linear Switch Help!
Post by: Fictiouz on Thu, 06 October 2016, 13:10:33
So I'm in the market for some linear switches after discovering I like Gateron Blacks, but I find them just a little bit to stiff. So my question is, is the 50g rating actuation or bottom out.

I am currently stuck between 65g Linear Zeals, 67g Linears Zeals, or Gateron Blacks. What do you guys recommend?

Help me linear switch experts, you're my only hope.

I also previously tried Cherry Blacks and find them to mushy.

Favorite is lubed vintage blacks with 65g. Ma Thang

Also tried putting black stems in gateRon housings. Worked like a charm

The 50g rating is actuation. Gateron switches are all rated for actuation like their Cherry counterparts.

Have many of you had experience with Linear Zealio Switches?

Unfortunately, no. I'd like to try them, though.

I know nick has used them.

I'll touch base with him after work then. I got an SS plate for X60 and want to put linears on it and I kinda want to wait for zeal60 r2 to build that plate so I got time.

Linear Zeal switches are identical to Gateron linears AFAIK, since you know... they make them.

yup, this man is correct. Especially considering OP doesn't like Cherry he really shouldn't settle for any MX clones :P .

you could get Matias linears and order some heavier springs off of Sprit  :D

The 50g rating is actuation. Gateron switches are all rated for actuation like their Cherry counterparts.

To this point, does anyone have a spreadsheet or even raw data that has relative actuation force, bottom out force, etc. for gateron, cherry, and zealio switches?  It seems like it's always one or the other force, but nothing that matches up (and I don't know enough about keyboards to assume there's some conversion).

I want to say wasd has graphs of the most common cherry switches, you can then use that as a comparison to the switches you have the weight options, like zealios

SKCL Green Alps would be a great choice, and if you can't find those linear modded SKCM Black or SKCM White feel very similar. Just as smooth as SKCL Green at least (if in good condition)

I really want to find some SKCL Greens :p but I guess looking for Blacks are easier and cheaper.

Are Cherry MX linears universally hated? What if they are lubed? I want to try gaterons but I hated the stems are wobbly.

I'm unsure whether I should go forheavier or lighter ones, seeing as they are linears.

Well, no. To each their own, after all. Moreover, not everyone can just get a linear Alps board with ease, which in fairness is a rather massive disadvantage. Not everone enjoys digging through skips :p .

Gateron Blacks are fine, but Vintage MX Black feel crisper to me. They're easy enough to come by, but I don't know much about what you're looking to do or how much modding you're interested in.

I also have heard stock Gateron springs are quite inconsistently weighted, likely looser manufacturing tolerances.

SKCL are great, just need to find a layout you're okay with and hope they're not dirty. ALPs are easy to get dust in and ruin the SKCL smoothness. Also find some nice ALPs caps, which is nontrivial.

I came to post the same.  XMIT's Hall Effect 80% group buy is starting soon.
