Title: 60% Case Design
Post by: footiemonkey on Thu, 06 October 2016, 15:43:43
Hello,

Fairly new to GH so please let me know if this isn't in the right section.

Over the last few weeks I've been hunting for the perfect(in my eyes) 60% case for my upcoming Zeal PCB.
I've really loved the look of bamboo but I don't see a lot of options for it as a KB case.
I also enjoy a bit of angle on my current cases so the profile of a pok3r case would be ideal.
I wanted to show off the purple PCB if possible so acrylic integrated would be nice to have.

Today I used sketchup to put my thoughts into something a little more substantial. I would appreciate any feedback on the form and function of this case should it turn into a reality.
All measurements are rough so please keep that in mind.
I used this template to start with:
https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/model.html?id=u7282d3a6-4d29-4a42-8aa9-c94679d5352c

The PCB and plate would attach to the steel(?) rods with screw anchors(idk if that is the correct term) after the pilot hole was drilled in the rod.

Thanks for looking,
footiemonkey

Looks pretty neat! How are you planning on attaching the acrylic to the wooden sides?

My first thought is a dado joint raised up from the bottom of the case so the acrylic wouldn't be touching the desk.

I'm confused. Did you reply to the wrong thread?

Yep, that's one of the only ones I've see out there. and def not with an angle of the pok3r.

For your rods - I wouldn't use steel.  W/o a drill press and clamps you'd never be able to drill holes through them to mount the PCB (not to mention potential grounding or shorting issues).  Would be a lot easier to use wooden dowels.

Ya, I was thinking I would have to mark the mount points then disassemble and drill then reassemble.
I worry about rigidity with wood dowels. Maybe aluminium would be a better option. It's softer than steel but would have more rigidity than wood.

Appreciate the feedback.
